I am currently using SharePoint Online and would like to create subsites within a SharePoint site. However, I am unable to find the option to create subsites in the SharePoint settings or site menu.

Could you please assist me in enabling or locating this feature? If subsites are no longer supported, kindly provide guidance on the recommended alternative structure for organizing content hierarchically in SharePoint Online.

    Dear Hardik Purohit,

Thanks for writing back and updating with us. Apologies for the delay in the response.

As per the further updates, I would like to confirm whether the problem happens even with the new SharePoint Online sites. If yes, then I would like to let you know that the possible cause is Subsite creation feature is disabled in the SharePoint Online admin center:

So, I request you to connect with the SharePoint Online admin of your organization and ask them to check whether the Subsite creation is enabled:

Steps for the admin of your organization:

Open the SharePoint Online admin center> Settings> Scroll down completely and click on classic settings pageat the bottom> Scroll down to Subsite Creation and see whether it’s enabled.

If it’s not enabled, please ask the admin to enable it, so that you can create the subsites in your SharePoint Online sites.

Appreciate your time and efforts with us. Have a wonderful day!!

    Best Regards,

    Sophia

    Dear Hardik Purohit,

    Good day!!

Apologies for the inconvenience caused and please don’t worry, let’s work together on your concern and move towards a resolution path.

I understand your concern and to my knowledge, I would like to convey that to option to create the subsite is available to the users who are the owners of the SharePoint Online site, where the users with the Edit permissions will not have option Subsite when we click on +New:

So, if you are not the owner of the SharePoint Online site, please contact the owner of the site and ask them to create a subsite on your behalf.

If you are the owner of the site but not able to find the option to create the subsite, I would like to request you to create a new SharePoint Online site for the test purpose and see whether you are able to find the option to create the subsites.

If no, then the possible cause is the option to create the subsite check is not enabled in the SharePoint Online admin center. So, please contact the SharePoint Online admin of your organization and ask them to enable the creation of subsite: Manage site creation in SharePoint - SharePoint in Microsoft 365 | Microsoft Learn

Appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a great day!!

    Best Regards,

    Sophia
