    Thanks for the follow-up.

Indeed, "cleaning" programs often do more harm than good.

You do not want to use a clean boot as a way to work. It is a diagnostic.

Likewise, starting Word in safe mode.

However, it sounds like the Windows file association is broken.

The simplest way to fix that that I know of is a quick repair.

Repair an Office application - Office Support

If that does not work, try an online repair, referenced in the same article.

Are you saying that double-clicking a document icon in File Explorer fails?

Are you able to open the document if you start Word first and then browse for the document via File > Open > Browse?

Hello MuralitharanAtthippattu Srinivasan,   Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are experiencing issues when trying to open Office applications, and it seems that the applications can only run in administrator mode. Based on the experiences of other users in the community, this issue is often caused by interference from third-party applications, such as CCleaner. Therefore, please check if you have similar software installed on your computer and try closing or uninstalling them to see if this resolves the issue.

Additionally, you can try performing a clean boot to eliminate any interference from third-party software. For detailed steps, please refer to: How to perform a clean boot in Windows - Microsoft Support

Disclaimer: A clean boot starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program and help you identify the cause of the problem. The steps for a "clean boot" might seem complex at first glance, but to avoid any trouble, please follow them in order, step by step. This will help you get back on track.

If you think this information is helpful, or if you still have any questions about it, feel free to let me know in your reply!Best RegardsEliac | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
