Small text boxes are completely unusable in powerpoint if Copilot is enabled - it completely obscures the text box!

In powerpoint, if copilot is enabled, small text boxes are completely unusable. See this screenshot, which is what it looks like when my cursor is in the top box for editing:

(Unfortunately the upload image function here is also broken, so I have to use imgur)

The copilot icon completely obscures the text. I can't see what I'm editing at all. Was there any user testing done on this feature at all? Who at Microsoft thought it would be a good idea to position an icon INSIDE every text box without any obvious way to disable it?

How do I get rid of this?

    Dear John Lowe5,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are getting Copilot when editing with the text box feature in PowerPoint, I understand your frustration and will do my best to help you troubleshoot.

Usually, before Microsoft releases a feature, it will be improved many times based on user feedback before releasing the feature publicly. I checked the linked image you shared (usually when you share an image in the community, it may not load, you can try it several times, I had the same problem as you), and then tried to insert a text box in PowerPoint and edit it according to what you described, but unfortunately it didn't reproduce your problem, and the Copilot icon will be displayed in the upper left corner of the slide:

     Image

I would like to confirm some information with you in order to get a better idea of the status of the problem:

    • May I ask if you are selecting Insert -> Text Box for your text box and then editing it?
    • Do you have the Copilot icon displayed in the upper left corner, or does it appear directly on the slide?
    • What version of PowerPoint are you currently using? You can click File->Account->Share with us a screenshot of the information on the right to determine if this happens with a specific version.

You can also try disabling Copilot by turning off Connected Experiences, to troubleshoot if you can edit properly:

It's important to explain that if you disable this feature, you won't have access to experiences that evaluate their content to provide design recommendations, editing suggestions, data insights, and similar features such as PowerPoint Designer or Translator. For a complete list, you can refer to this link: Connected experiences in Office - Microsoft 365 Apps | Microsoft Learn

    1. Open PowerPoint.
    2. Select File > Account.
    3. Under Account Privacy, select Manage Settings.
    4. deselect ‘Enable optional connectivity experience’.
    5. Restart the Microsoft 365 application

We sincerely hope you understand that this initial information may not give us a clear understanding of the depth of the issue. If there is any progress, please feel free to share more information above with us to troubleshoot.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

    Best regards
