Dear Barbara Pedersen,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We understand that you want to get more storage space to store pictures.

According to your description, you are currently using the free OneDrive 5GB storage space. Regarding getting more storage space, we need to explain to you:

Without any subscription, you only have 5GB of OneDrive storage space, but if you try the subscription, usually the trial version of Office products is Microsoft 365 Family products, you will have 1TB of storage space. The trial period is usually 30 days.

You can indeed try and expand the corresponding OneDrive storage space according to your needs to help you avoid being affected by files that are full of OneDrive storage.

After your trial, we recommend that you subscribe to the corresponding Office and OneDrive storage space to help expand according to your needs. Otherwise, if the file storage is full, your account will be frozen and unable to synchronize.

Microsoft 365 is divided into Basic, Personal and Family versions, and the corresponding storage space and subscription fees are different:

Microsoft 365 Basic: only includes 100GB of OneDrive storage space, and does not include any Office products. The installation button will not be displayed under the account.

Microsoft 365 Personal: only one account can be logged in, can be logged in on 5 devices, and has 1TB of OneDrive space.

Microsoft 365 Family: can be logged in by 6 accounts including your own account, each account can be logged in on 5 devices, and each account can enjoy 1TB of OneDrive space.

Buy Microsoft 365 Family & Personal Subscriptions, and Office 2024 - Microsoft Store

Microsoft 365 Basic Plan & Pricing (Includes OneDrive 100gb Storage, Outlook) - Microsoft Store

You can then subscribe to the corresponding product on a monthly or annual basis and confirm the storage space based on your needs.

Hope this helps you understand the information about storage subscriptions.

Best Regards,

    Dear Barbara Pedersen,

Thank you very much for your reply and understanding. We see that you only need to use the storage space.

Then we suggest that you can directly subscribe to the Microsoft 365 Basic product to help you expand the storage space to save and back up file information.

At the same time, I need to explain to you about your picture saving:

After you expand the storage space, you can turn on the synchronization of the desktop or picture folder in the device, and the pictures will be automatically saved in OneDrive after synchronization.

If you need to save pictures in other paths to OneDrive, you need to manually move or copy the files to OneDrive and then view and use them.

    Best Regards,

Thank you for answering. I really don’t need any office products so basic will work for me. Have one additional question.

Will I be able to move any pictures to an external drive?
