If your printer takes paper from an open tray (not a drawer), the quickest way to stop a print job is to remove the paper. Beyond that, your printer may have a Cancel button, which will be fairly quick. It is seldom possible to stop a print job from the software side because most documents spool to the printer faster than you can act, and the printer will continue to print until it has printed all the data it has received. Regardless of how you stop the job externally, you will still need to remove the document from the queue (through Windows Settings). Ian has told you how to do that.

    Hello dBraxtonW.

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

If the print job is still in the queue and has not yet been completed, you can first try to cancel it directly from Word:

    • Click the Cancel button in the Print Progress pop-up window (usually located at the bottom of the pop-up window). If the pop-up is closed, you can restart the print job to trigger the pop-up and then cancel it immediately.

If this does not work, the print job may have been submitted to the system queue and will need to be further processed through Windows Print Services Management:

    • Right-click on the Windows Start menu and select Settings > Bluetooth and Other Devices > Printers and Scanners. “.
    • Find the printer you are currently using, click “Open Print Queue”, select the job to be canceled, right-click and select “Cancel” or press “Cancel All Documents” in the top menu.

If the status of the job is stuck in “Deleting”, try to restart the printer device and computer, and perform the above steps again.

    • If you frequently encounter print jobs that cannot be canceled, it is recommended to check whether the printer driver is the latest version (downloaded from the printer brand's official website).
    • Temporary printer anomalies, you can restart the printing background program through Windows services: press Win + R, enter services.msc, find the “Print Spooler” service, right-click and select “Restart”.

I hope this is useful and if you have any questions please let me know.

    Best regards,
