I have a subscription to Microsoft 365 Family as well as a subscription to MSN premium. Am I essentially paying twice for Outlook?

Thank you for this detailed reply. Can you elaborate on the question of "ad-free email" as indicated by the MSN Premium sales pitch, vs using Outlook from a 365 Family subscription? If MSN Premium is cancelled, will ads begin to appear on Outlook if using a 365 Family subscription?

Hi Rod: Yes, you can use the Outlook component within Office 365 (now Microsoft 365) with your existing Outlook email addresses (from MSN Premium) and likely discontinue the MSN Premium subscription. Here's why and how:Why you can do it:

    • MSN Premium is a standalone subscription: The MSN Premium subscription provides security and email features, but the email accounts themselves (e.g., @msn.com) are separate from the MSN Premium subscription and are associated with your Microsoft Account.
    • Outlook.com is the same email service: The Outlook.com webmail is the same email service as the MSN email accounts, so after canceling the subscription you will need to access your emails through the web interface, not the MSN Premium interface.
    • Outlook for Windows (desktop) supports multiple accounts: The Outlook desktop client within Office 365 (now Microsoft 365) supports adding and managing multiple email accounts, including those from Outlook.com (and previously MSN). How to switch to using Outlook within Office 365:1. 1. Install or Activate Office 365: Ensure you have Microsoft 365 (formerly Office 365) installed and activated on your computer.
    1. 2. Open Outlook: Open the Outlook desktop client within Microsoft 365.
    2. 3. Add your account: Go to File > Account Settings > Add Account. Alternatively, go to "File" > "Info" > "Add Account".
    3. 4. Sign in: In the account add screen, sign in with your MSN.com email address and password, then follow the prompts.
    4. 5. Verify and set up: After adding the account, it will synchronize with your mailbox.
    5. 6. Manage your account: You can now access and manage your MSN.com emails from within Outlook (desktop).
    6. 7. Cancel the subscription: Once set up and verified, you can proceed to cancel your MSN Premium subscription.
    7. 8. Access web version: You can still access your MSN email accounts through the web version of Outlook on the Microsoft Outlook website after canceling the MSN Premium subscription.

    Important points:

    • No need to recreate accounts: Your MSN email addresses will continue to work, and you won't need to create new email accounts or aliases.
    • Free to use: You can still access and manage your emails through the web version of Outlook.com, which is free with a Microsoft account.
    • Optional premium features: With a Microsoft 365 subscription, you gain access to premium features within Outlook desktop and web versions.
    • Outlook.com and MSN emails are the same: Outlook.com is the successor to Hotmail/MSN Mail and both can be accessed through the Outlook.com webmail, and the Outlook desktop client.

Same question from me as well. I have both 365 Family and MSN Premium. From what I have read about MSN Premium it is about "ad-free email". 365 Family is a paid service and should therefore be "as-free" correct? If that's the case, if I cancel MSN Premium, do I begin getting ads on my 365 Family account?

Would be great if Microsoft would weigh in here, but not surprised that they aren't.

I have the same question. We need to be sure our MSN premium email accounts move if we go with 365 family.

So...if I have an existing Outlook account (through MSN premium) and I also have Office 365, could I not just use the Outlook component in 365 with my outlook email addresses and dump MSN premium?
