I have Microsoft Family plan shared between 5 user and I'd like to add Copilot to my subscription. However, it seems to be linked to one email only? If I purchase it for the main account, will it be available to all 5 users? Also, is there a yearly plan or just a monthly one? Thank you!

As of now (March, 2025) this is completely broken. Copilot is allegedly part of Office 365. As the owner of a family plan I can use it. Imagine my surprise when my son tried to use it and found it was "blocked by an administrator." That led me down the rabbit hole of trying to enable it, only to discover that only the family plan owner can use it. This makes no sense. The whole point of the family plan is to share the tools across the family.

I guess I'll answer my own question since I just checked the fine print of the Microsoft 365 Family email:

^1^AI features only available to subscription owner and cannot be shared; usage limits apply.

Microsoft, please fix this! It's bizarre to restrict something like this when the whole point of a Family plan is to share.

Hello, I found a way to get Copilot to work in office apps of the family.

On the computer (or account) of your family member, open an office app, click on the person account (picture in the right corner) and choose "add another account", then add the Microsoft plan owner account there. There is something wrong when it asks for PIN, so choose another method for login. Once the owner account is added, you can switch back to the other family member account, copilot is also activated for other accounts.

Not perfect, because your family member can potentially access the owner documents and mails, but the only way I found to give access to my wife. The ridiculous thing is that she uses office at home much more than me...

Microsoft Office took away Researcher and replaced it with Copilot. However, Copilot is not included for any family member other than the main account holder. Why even have Office 365 family if the ability to research in Word is removed for family members. This was utterly stupid.

Is Jallison above correct? One of the reasons to get 365 Family was to have all these features for everyone, but I also can't get a child's account to load Copilot right now. I also can't find anything in Microsoft Family to enable.

Microsoft, is it true that only the primary family plan owner can use Copilot?

    Thanks,
    Keith
