Why is OneDrive stuck on "signing in"?

My wife and I have been having an issue with the OneDrive app on her laptop. The OneDrive icon in the lower right has the overlaid blue circle, which should indicate that it's syncing, but when I click on the icon, it says "signing in." We have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, and reset OneDrive. We have also rebooted the laptop several times. I've checked the %localappdata% and the registry, as recommended by other replies here, but that has not worked. It's a personal laptop, so it's not a group policy issue. Please help us find a solution.

The computer is an HP Windows laptop.

We've tried connecting to a mobile hotspot. That didn't help.

I logged on to the Microsoft account, and didn't see anything that looked like the instructions you gave for using an alias. This is what I saw:

Please tell me what to do from this screen.

    Hello. Tamara Andersen

I'm glad you could give me feedback.

Have you tried using your computer to contact the hotspot on your phone?

Are you using your Windows system installed on a mac computer? If it's a mac device, it's hard for us as Microsoft community to provide third party data support. You can go to apple official to get how to change DNS.

Authenticator is a mobile app, a Microsoft product, free of charge, you can download one and bind your account to the app, then you can change the alias on the website.

    Best regards.

Just to be sure we're clear, this is what we've been seeing in the OneDrive app on the laptop for several days now:

The laptop is running Windows 11 Home; other internet-dependent functions (email, web browser, WhatsApp) all work fine.

    1. I tried turning WiFi off and back on. It didn't help.
    2. I have "Settings" not "Control Panel." I could find anything that would allow me to change the IP address of the DNS server. In the WiFi settings for our home network, I did find that the network was set to be a public network. I changed that to "private network", but that didn't help.

Here's a screenshot of network properties from the settings:

    1. We have no problem logging into OneDrive on the web. The account is currently using 520.9 GB out of 1.03 TB available (49%), so there's no problem there.
    2. I closed OneDrive using Task Manager and rebooted the laptop. That didn't help.
    3. You suggest using an alias in the Microsoft account. We can't do that, because it seems to require something called Authenticator, which I don't have. Besides, I only have the one email address.
    4. You also suggest reinstalling Outlook. We've done that already, and it didn't help.

    Hello. Tamara Andersen

Thanks for using Microsoft products and posting in the community.

I would be honored to help you with your problem.

I realize that you've encountered a problem of OneDrive.

Here are some ways you can refer to below:

    1.Network problem.

Turn off the computer and WiFi, wait for some time, and then turn on the device to connect to the network.

You can also try to use the computer to connect to the mobile phone hotspot, to log into office.

Turn off the firewall and antivirus software, and when it will be blocked by these systems.

Disclaimer: Temporarily turn off antivirus protection. However, keep in mind that if you do so, your device may be vulnerable to threats. So please turn it on immediately once issue fixed.

You can try to change the DNS to log into the network.

Open the "Control Panel", select "Network and Internet", and click on "Network and Sharing Center".

    Image

Click on the blue text after the "Connections:" icon.

    Image

Right click on the connected network and select "Properties".

    Image

Double click on 'Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)'.

Select 'Use the following DNS server address' and enter the following address:

    Preferred DNS Server: 4.2.2.1

    Backup DNS Server: 4.2.2.2

Click 'OK' and then try to start OneDrive again.

    2. Log in to the web version of OneDrive.

    Log in to OneDrive.live.com.

Check if there is any problem with the account and check if the OneDrive memory is full.

With when OneDrive memory is full, it can also cause problems.

    3.Use ailias

Signing out of OneDrive and shutdown OneDrive.

Open a browser and visit https://account.microsoft.com/. Sign in with your Microsoft account and password.

Go to the Account Information page: Once you are signed in, click on ‘Your Information’ at the top of the page.

Then in the ‘Account info’ section, click ‘Manage account info’.

    click“Add a email”

enter a new email address and confirm. Select ‘Add’ and complete the validation. The new email will become your alias.

Set Primary Alias: Next to an existing alias, click ‘Set as Primary Alias’ to set it as your primary login email.

Sign in to OneDrive using an alias

    4. Reinstall OneDrive.

This method basically solves all the problems caused by OneDrive itself.

Download the OneDrive App for PC, Mac, Android, or iOS – Microsoft OneDrive

Let me know if this is contrary to what you need.

    Best regards.
