This morning a file when I opened up my excel file, it reverted back to a prior version 8 days ago when I initially created the document. It saved and now I lost a weeks worth of work.

How I do recover all of the work?

I have had multiple saves on the document. However when I view version history it only shows today's save and the original save from 8 days ago.

Please help as this is a major set back.

I had a similar problem - I was working on an Excel spreadsheet and I got a message in the top banner - something about saving the file - I clicked on Save and for some reason it reverted to a version a week old. This might have been a version stored on OneDrive. Trying to restore via version history (both locally and on OneDrive) didn't help - the recent version I had been working on seemed lost. But then I searched my local disk on the file name and found the one I wanted in the directory ...\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Excel\TemporaryBackupFile\3.17.2025 7.22 PM - (filename).xlsx. I didn't see this as a solution in any of the online discussions, so maybe this will help.

    Hello,
    i have a similar problem:
working on Excel for hours in different tabs, i copied a formular and produced a circular error, than Excel resetted all previous worked tabs back to last saved version - my tab i was working on didn't change.
The changes on the other tabs are only manual changes which where resetted, calculated fields are not recalculated and show the old values. exp. 0 + 0 = 5 (automatic calculation on)
    This happened in
    Microsoft® Excel® für Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2410 Build 16.0.18129.20200) 64 Bit
If i read all these problems here i feel like your answers are just workarounds to help the users to get their data back - but you are not working on a solution to prevent these errors! I found my problem in an 8 year old post for Excel 2016!!! https://www.reddit.com/r/excel/comments/5xylnk/excel_undid_changes_on_its_own/?tl=de&rdt=46488in case of error switch off automatic calc until circle is solved! but don't revert all other changes!

Please stop testing software at the customer !
Solve the problems without creating more backups!
    Thank you

    HI,

I have a document i work on daily.

Today, it decided to open a version from March. When i go to previous version, it does not show all my saves from the previous 7 months.

This document is saved on OneDrive.

How can i access a version fromt his morning or yesterday? How does this happen?

This is an extrememly important file!

    Thanks

    Hello,

Thank you for posting your query in our community.

To recover your lost work, you can try the following steps:

First, check the 'Recover Unsaved Workbooks' feature under the 'File' tab. If that doesn't help, search for '.asd' files in the 'UnsavedFiles' folder within your user profile. Additionally, if your Excel is synced with OneDrive or SharePoint, check the online version history for any additional saved versions.

For future prevention, consider enabling 'AutoRecover' and regularly backing up your work.

    Sincerely,

    Junyu Satoh

    Hi,

I have the same issue. A version of Excel I was working on, saved to my computer mysteriously reverted to the version saved to my one drive. This is very alarming because I have other documents I have been working on saved to my computer too.

I can't trust One Drive because in an earlier event I dragged and dropped folders from my PC to One drive. The drag and drop action didn't copy but instead moved them. The traumatic thing was anything that was more than 4 folder levels in was deleted. An error message came up saying 'failed to copy' without any way of restoring them.

I have been searching for a while now and can't seem to find the setting that makes One Drive decide which way to synch documents. Does this affect everything on my PC!!? This is extremely bad and the issues I am having with one drive is making me loose faith in Microsoft as a company because saving a document doesn't guarantee it will be saved.

    Hope this can be resolved.
