How can I connect Power Automate to Forms on a Personal/Family plan?

Each of the following is true:

  • Forms is included in the Microsoft 365 personal/family license.
  • Power Automate is included in the personal/family license.
  • Power Automate is limited to standard connectors with the personal/family license.
  • The Forms connector is a standard connector.

When trying to authenticate the Forms connector, you get various errors depending on where in Power Automate you are. Generally, they revolve around failed authentication and says you need to be added as an external user. Yes, I'm signed in as the same account.

This is very irritating as one of the main things I looked forward to using my Microsoft 365 Family license for was creating simple Forms for the household to use for things like chores, and having the automation set up was my primary reason for getting this license. I checked everything above before purchasing the license, and nowhere does it say that any one of the things above is not true.

The steps to recreate this should be pretty simple, just make sure you're using a personal or family licensed account.

    Dear, SkyQ

    Thanks for your clarification.

Typically, when using a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription, you may find that—even though both Microsoft Forms and Power Automate are “included”—the Forms connector in Power Automate fails to authenticate. In practice, the Forms connector is designed to work with work or school (organizational) accounts that are part of an Azure Active Directory (AAD) tenant. Personal accounts (for example, those ending in @outlook.com, @live.com, or similar) are not integrated into AAD in the same way. This discrepancy causes the authentication process to look for your account in a tenant (“Microsoft Services”) where it doesn’t exist, resulting in errors that mention the need to add you as an external user.

Simply put, although the Family version of Office 365 includes Microsoft Forms but not Power Automate, its default license does not support the full Power Automate functionality because the Home version is mainly for consumers, and the full functionality of Power Automate (including support for advanced connectors) requires a work or school account, that is, an account belonging to Azure Active Directory.

To resolve this issue, the following measures are recommended:

    1. Upgrade license:
      • Choose the length of your subscription> 1 year -$22.00 user/month, 1 user $264.00 /year
      • 1 month - $26.40 user/month
      • If you have higher demand, you can also purchase an additional Power Automate Premium License for around $15/month, which can further expand the capabilities of workflow automation. Reference:  Power Automate Pricing | Microsoft Power Platform
    2. Use the correct account type:
      • Power Automate requires a work or school account to function fully. Business subscriptions such as Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Standard, Premium, or Office 365 Enterprise Edition provide full Power Automate access.
      • For users using Office 365 Family/Personal, personal Microsoft accounts (such as those ending at @outlook.com or @live.com) do not have the required Azure AD integration, so all the features of Power Automate cannot be used directly.

Feel free to let us know if anything unclear, thanks!

    Best regards,

    Chandy.L

Explain to me, please, why you've linked me to a non-community page that requires a ticket to be submitted, which can only be done with an enterprise account when I'm specifically asking about a personal/family account?

This is the only place I can find to ask supposed experts this question. Do I need to repost this again and mention several more times in my post that this is for a family plan?
