Multiple Emails when a comments is posted in a file

Hi, I have a few people reporting that when someone comments in a shared file, they are receiving multiple email notifications about the same comment. It started late Wednesday (Feb 19).

I've checked the emails and they are duplicates (some coming in the middle of the night when nobody is online).

I found this thread but is there a setting for comments for files in Sharepoint?

    In typical me fashion I posted before following back up with my users today. They have now reported that it hasn't happened today so far. Maybe I fixed it

    To follow up with Shawn's comment, I hadn't thought about if the notifications were being triggered by subsequent updates to a list item. My initial thought would be no, but I can't conclusively say that; as one user reported getting 76 notifications after hours and no one in our business would be updating list items over night... or at least not that much.

    We are experiencing this issue as well. Can you indicate what type of file you are experiencing it with - i.e. Word or Excel. For myself, the issue currently resides with Excel.

    Yes...We are having a very similar issue. Tasks in our SharePoint list that users have been @mentioned on. Each time the task is updated, it triggers another @mention email notification, resulting in multiple notifications for the same task.

    It started yesterday for us as well so it must be a glitch. Funny enough it's not happening to everyone in the file. I have 2 users getting multiples, 1 user only got the 1 notification.

    I reported it, so if enough people report it maybe they will declare it an official issue. I couldn't find anything either.

    I have been searching high and low for something regarding this and this post is the first I've seen. We've been experiencing the same thing since yesterday. Some users have gotten the same notification regarding being tagged in an a Sharepoint list Item half a dozen times or more, depending on the age of the notification.

    I've reported the issue through our tenant but nothing so far.

    Following this post in case a resolution occurs.
