Where has the VPN on Defender gone?

I am no longer able to find, or use VPN on Defender. Why has this been removed? I am in Spain. It has just disappeared from my PC and mobile.

Am I going to have to pay more and get less this year?

    Dear Hannah.Z,

    Thank you for your reply.

You suggest I should get access to a more comprehensive VPN by subscribing to 365, and I quote If you need a more comprehensive VPN service, you can subscribe to Microsoft 365 Personal or Family.”.

I do, already, have a subscription to 365 Family.  So, I ask again, why has my access to the VPN been removed?

My subscription has gone up by £25 this year, a 31.25% hike.  I am very annoyed about the increase and, I am even more annoyed because I am unable to access a feature which was a big part of me signing up for 365.  You appear to have removed this feature without any thought for your customers.

This is NOT good customer service.

    Regards,

    JStuartG

    Hello, JstuartG.

I think you may have misunderstood what I meant, but what I mean is📌Rest assured, other Defender features (such as device protection, identity theft, and credit monitoring) will continue to be provided, ensuring safer internet usage without additional charges. If you need a more comprehensive VPN service*, you can subscribe to Microsoft 365 Personal or Family.*

More comprehensive VPN service refers to other Defender features (such as device protection, identity theft, and credit monitoring). These comprehensive security services are available with a Microsoft 365 subscription, and they have more advanced security features, while the free Defender version only offers basic antivirus and security protection.

As for the question you mentioned, I pointed it out to you directly at the beginning of the article:

According to the official Microsoft support article I found for you📖-<End of support-Privacy protection (VPN) in Microsoft Defender for individuals - Microsoft Support>:The VPN feature (Privacy Protection) in Microsoft Defender was officially discontinued on February 28, 2025.

Since the Microsoft community is just a community for technical discussions, I can't participate in development-related content. This is not my decision, and I do not have the authority to decide whether to continue supporting the VPN feature (Privacy Protection) in Microsoft Defender. I can only help you by forwarding this issue to them. You can also visit the Microsoft Defender feedback center through the following link to provide your feedback:
