I am trying to follow your instructions but don't have the option to Format Comment when right clicking the border (yes, with the 4 arrows). My version of 365 is Version 16.91 (24111020) and the screenshot shows the options that are available when right clicking. Is this a version issue where this feature isn't available anymore? Is there a workaround or backdoor to that screen you showed with your Format Comment screenshot? I'm tracking medical receipts and want to save them in this manner to quickly see the ones paid.

I am adding to this thread because it is very recent so I am assuming you guys have the most recent update. With the newest update, when I right click a note box and then select "format comment," the only thing I am able to change is the font. I really want to be able to insert pictures of test questions so I can see the actual question from the assessment when I hover over the cell without having to insert the whole picture into the cell itself, as it would make the document too big to view all at once (I use excel for my gradebook as a teacher). Is there a workaround for this? Or have Microsoft made it impossible to insert pictures into a note?

    Hi, MICHAEL FEATHER

Thank you for using Microsoft products and posting them to the community.

To insert a photo into a note in Excel, you can follow these steps:

    1. Insert a Note:
      • Right-click the cell where you want to add the note.
      • Select New Note.
    2. Format the Note:
      • Right-click on the edge of the note box (you should see a four-arrow cursor).
      • Select Format Comment.
    3. Add the Picture:
      • In the Format Comment dialog box, go to the Colors and Lines tab.
      • Under Fill, click the Color dropdown and select Fill Effects.
      • In the Fill Effects dialog, go to the Picture tab and click Select Picture.
      • Choose the picture you want to insert from your computer and click Insert.
    4. Adjust the Picture:
      • You can resize and reposition the picture within the note as needed.
      • Make sure to lock the aspect ratio to prevent distortion.
    5. Save and Close:
      • Click OK to apply the changes and close the dialog boxes.

I hope the above information can help you. Feel free to send a message if you need further help.

    Best wishes

    Katie,

Try moving the cursor to the border of the "note" box until you see the 4 arrows pointing away from center. Once you see the arrows, right mouse click to find the format comment. Hope this helps

    Hello Aiden,

I have no problem doing this (inserting a picture into a note), however I seem to be unable to insert a picture with the proper perspective (i.e., portrait and / or landscape) nor change the perspective once the photo is in the note. Once the photo is in the note I do not see a way to rotate the photo. Is there a way to do so?
