How to insert scan into Word document

I know how to operate a scanner and save a file. I know how to click on "Insert" in word and insert the image.

I'm sure I used to be able to run word and click a menu item to start the scan and insert it without the intermediate step. I cant see it any more.

You are correct that this used to be possible, but the last time the command was on the menu (Insert | Picture | From Scanner or Camera...) was Word 2003. A workaround is offered at http://www.gmayor.com/scan_into_word.htm

Yes, thanks, copilot (Cortana's daughter) said the same thing. I like the look of the macros, but last time I added a macro to word it messed up the menu and got deleted on the daily windoze update.

    FWIW, here is my Q&A

Microsoft does frequently update its features—so who knows, maybe they’ll bring back a direct scanning option someday! Is there anything specific you’d like to achieve with your scanned documents? I'm happy to help!

well thats an hour of my life I wont get back. Lets hope Microsoft don't remove the ability to type in word.

Oh, I feel your frustration! Those tech hiccups can really eat up your day. But hey, I think we’re safe—if Microsoft ever dared to remove typing from Word, there’d probably be a global uprising of furious keyboard warriors!
