Onedrive Error 0x8004de69 popped up last week

Last week I noticed I was no longer signed into Onedrive on my desktop. I tried to sign in using my personal Hotmail account and it comes up with Error 0x8004de69

Whenever I tried to login again, it keeps automatically trying to make me sign in using my works business email. I don't know how my work email got linked to Onedrive on my personal PC.

I decided to try it anyway and Onedrive will let me sign in if i use my work email on the desktop yet if i use my personal email it again brings up this error.

I can sign into my personal Onedrive account on Browser but I have no access to any files it says I'm Unauthenticated.

I have looked on my PC and in Settings under Access work or school I did have my work email in there so I removed it.

I also went into credential manager and tried deleting anything that looked like Onedrive and Office. I have tried a reinstall of Onedrive as well.

So far nothing is working. Anybody know of any solutions?

Hi W3lsh,

Thank you for posting here in Community.

I understand this OneDrive error 0x8004de69 is frustrating, especially when your personal account isn’t working while your work email is unexpectedly linked. You’ve already tried several troubleshooting steps, but the issue persists, making it difficult to access your files. I completely understand how inconvenient this is, and I want to help you get this resolved.

Let’s go through some additional troubleshooting steps to fix this issue:

Step 1: Unlink OneDrive from Your PC

  1. Click the OneDrive icon in the system tray.
  2. Select Settings (gear icon) > Account.
  3. Click Unlink this PC and confirm.
  4. Restart your computer and try signing in again with your personal account.

Step 2: Remove Work/School Account from Windows

Since your work email is interfering, ensure it’s fully removed:

  1. Open Settings > Accounts > Access work or school.
  2. Select your work email and click Disconnect.
  3. Restart your PC and attempt to sign in to OneDrive again.

Step 3: Clear OneDrive Credentials

  1. Open Credential Manager (search for it in Windows).
  2. Go to Windows Credentials.
  3. Locate any entries related to OneDrive or Microsoft Office.
  4. Remove them and restart your PC.

Step 4: Reset OneDrive

  1. Press Win + R, type the following, and hit Enter: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
  2. Wait a few minutes, then restart OneDrive manually.

Step 5: Check Windows Updates

  1. Open Settings > Windows Update.
  2. Install any pending updates.
  3. Restart your PC and try signing in again.

Step 6: Reinstall OneDrive

  1. Uninstall OneDrive from Settings > Apps.
  2. Download the latest version from Microsoft’s official site.
  3. Install it and attempt to sign in with your personal account.

Step 7: Try Signing in via a Different Network

If possible, switch to a different Wi-Fi or use a mobile hotspot to rule out network-related issues.

If none of these steps work, you may need to contact Microsoft Support for further assistance2. Let me know how it goes. I’m here to help!

Best regards,

Solved - Restarting my router looks like has fixed the issue. I was able to get it working again on my main desktop and sign in again which allowed it to then work on my phone and laptop again. Thanks for the help.
