How to DISABLE Copilot in Word on ONEDRIVE?

Suddenly, each document I open in Onedrive has a Copilot summary at the top.

I didn't ask for this and do not want it at all.

Is there a way to disable this feature?

The above answer is ... not correct.

When I write a document inside OneDrive, on the left there is an icon called "Draft with Copilot".

This little icon chases me all the way down the page, and its presence makes it physically using the cursor difficult, because the cursor simply do not stop where I want it many times.

MS, I am checking the Google version for documents because since you introduced this atrocity, it is very difficult to work with documents.

Ignore this one voice...this is how giants fell.

    Hi Eran,
Thanks for posting in the Microsoft community.

I understand you're seeing Copilot summaries or the "Draft with Copilot" icon when working on Word documents stored in OneDrive, and that this feature is interfering with your editing experience. I know how frustrating it can be when a new feature disrupts your workflow.

To clarify, there are two different environments where Copilot may appear in Word, and the ability to disable it depends on which one you're using.

If you're using Word for Windows (desktop app); You can disable Copilot features directly in the app by following the initial steps but note that the Copilot toggle is only available in newer builds of Word.

But if you're using Word for the Web (via OneDrive); Currently, there is no built-in option to disable or hide the "Draft with Copilot" icon in the web version of Word. This icon appears by default when editing cloud documents and is part of the integrated Microsoft 365 Copilot experience.

Finally, I strongly recommend submitting feedback to Microsoft about this issue:

In Word for Web, click Help > Feedback > I don’t like something, and describe how the Copilot icon affects your editing experience.

Your feedback is valuable and helps improve the product. If Microsoft introduces a way to disable this feature in the future, we’ll update this thread.

    Best wishes,

    Peter | Microsoft Community Support

    Hi,
Thanks for posting in the Microsoft community.

I understand you're seeing Copilot summaries at the top of Word documents opened from OneDrive, even though you didn’t enable this feature and prefer not to use it. I understand how this unexpected change can be frustrating.

This issue is likely caused by Copilot being enabled by default in your Microsoft 365 Word app.

Here’s how to disable it on your Windows device:

    1. Disable Copilot in Word for Windows:

This step turns off Copilot features entirely in the Word app.
    >> Open Microsoft Word, then go to File > Options > Copilot.
    >> Uncheck the "Enable Copilot" checkbox.
    >> Click OK, then close and restart Word.
If this doesn’t work, proceed to the next step.

    2. Make sure your Word version supports this setting:

The "Enable Copilot" option is only available in newer versions of Word.
    >> Ensure you're using Word version 2412 or later.
    >> To check, go to File > Account > About Word.
    >> If needed, update Word via File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.

    I hope this helps

    Best wishes,
