Why do I keep getting a "Session Expired" error on my document and only on this one document?

I have tried to refresh everything, tried in different browser, and fully logged out and logged back in. It is an education account and no one else is having this issue. This is a very important document that I need access to and now it will no longer let me edit or even copy it to another document.

    Hi,

Thank you for the response. Just to set your expectations that since it is only happening on specific document then it could be that it is corrupted. Just to inform you that we are not supporting file specific issues.

Since it has the same issue after performing all of the possible steps then you can try to reach out OneDrive support for further assistance.

    1. Starting from OneDrive.Live.com in the browser, signed in (or direct the customer to sign in.)
    2. Select the question mark ? in the top right corner of the screen to open the help pane.
    3. Select Contact support. This takes you to:https://support.microsoft.com/en-US/home/expcontact for self-help.
    4. Describe your issue as OneDrive Support and select Get Help.
    5. Review the list of Support articles to resolve your OneDrive issue.
    6. If none of the articles are effective, scroll down and select the Contact Support button.
    7. Select Microsoft 365 and Office as the Product and Services.
    8. Select Technical Support as the Category and select Confirm.
    9. Select OneDrive app support you will be sent to https://onedrive.live.com/?action=feedback

    Hi,

Yes, this problem is persisting. I managed to download the document through OneDrive so that I have the most updated version on my computer which I have then transferred to a new document.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community Forum. Please accept our warmest regards and sincerest hope that all is well despite the situation you find yourself in.

That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially since it's only affecting one document. Based on similar cases, here are a few possible reasons and solutions:

    Possible Causes & Fixes:

    1. Session Timeout Settings – Some education accounts have stricter session expiration settings. If your institution has enabled IP address enforcement, it could be causing shorter session lifetimes.
    2. Document-Specific Issue – If other documents work fine, this one might have a corruption issue. Try opening it in Office Online or downloading it to your device.
    3. Check OneDrive or SharePoint Permissions – If the document is stored in OneDrive for Business or SharePoint, check whether your access permissions have changed.
    4. Try a Different Network – Some network restrictions can interfere with authentication. If possible, try accessing the document from a different Wi-Fi or mobile network.
    5. Clear Cache & Cookies – Sometimes, browser cache can cause authentication issues. Clear your cache and cookies, then restart your browser.
    6. Use PowerShell to Extend Session Lifetime – If your institution manages SharePoint settings, an administrator can extend the session lifetime using PowerShell.

If none of these work, I recommend reaching out to your IT administrator or Microsoft Support for further troubleshooting.

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,
