Licensed Microsoft Office 2007 (on disc)

I bought the Microsoft Office 2007 (licensed version) when I was still working, and have been working well on my laptop, running Windows 10. I have retired, and today I am using it to record my medical condition/information (on Excel), and use Words, may be once or twice every year. I have recently bought a new desk top running Windows 11. My question is, can I still download Microsoft Office 2007 (on a disc) onto my new computer, and will I be able to update to the point where Microsoft stops its support? I understand there may be security issues as a result, but if any hacker is interested in my medical condition, I am not worried.

PS if your Office is for one computer at a time you will need to uninstall it from old computer before activating it on the new one.

The truth is: Since Office 2007 is not supported on Windows 11, nobody really knows how it will work.

'Not supported' means that Microsoft has not updated Office 2007 since October 17, 2017 when support ended, and Microsoft has not tested Office 2007 on Windows 11 'as-is.' This is why no one really knows.

It will work great for some people, and badly for others. It may work perfectly well today, but not after the next update to Windows.

There's certainly no law against installing your copy of Office 2007 on Windows 11 and trying to use it. But you must understand that nobody can guarantee that it will work properly all the time, and if it does not, there are no official solutions.

You misunderstand the risk of using unsupported software. No attacker cares about your medical condition. What they care about is being able to use your computer to carry out their criminal schemes.

I hope you enjoy many more healthy years.

    Hello Arthur,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community Support.

Thank you for sharing your situation—I’m happy to help clarify what’s possible regarding your Microsoft Office 2007 and your new Windows 11 desktop.

Yes, you can try installing Microsoft Office 2007 on your new desktop using the original disc and product key. However, please keep these points in mind:

    • Compatibility: Office 2007 is not officially supported on Windows 11, so compatibility issues might arise during installation or use.
    • Support Limit: Microsoft ended support for Office 2007 in October 2017, meaning no updates, including security patches, are available for it.
    • Security Concerns: Using outdated software can expose your computer to vulnerabilities, especially as hackers target unsupported programs. While you may not worry about your medical information being targeted, vulnerabilities could allow broader issues on your system.
    • Limited Features: Without updates or patches, some features of Office 2007 may not work properly on Windows 11.
    • Alternate Options: If the old version doesn't work well, consider exploring free or affordable alternatives, such as:
    • Microsoft 365: A subscription-based suite compatible with Windows 11.
    • Office Online: Free web-based versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Steps to Install:
    • Insert the disc into your new desktop and follow the installation prompts.
    • Enter your product key when prompted.
    • Test Excel and Word to confirm functionality.

If you encounter any issues during installation or need advice on transitioning to newer software, I’m here to assist further.

    Best regards
