Is there a difference in data privacy between copilot free and copilot pro?

Hello, I'm starting to use copilot to work and I need to know if the data that I use in the chat (both in the conversation and in attachment) are procted and not used to train AI models or sold to third party.

So far I have understood that if I use copilot pro in the "Work" section I'm 100% sure that my data are protected. But, what if do not have the pro license?

I have to add that even if i don't have the pro license i still have a company account in microsoft (not a personal one)

Thank you for the support.

    Hi Guglielmo Biagini,

    To clarify your final question:

If you are signed in to Copilot using an eligible company account (typically one managed through Microsoft Entra ID, formerly Azure Active Directory), your data does benefit from Microsoft’s enterprise-grade security and privacy protectionsregardless of whether you have a Copilot Pro license or not

Here’s what that means in practice:

    • Your data is not used to train Microsoft’s foundation models.
    • Your prompts and responses are not stored or used outside your organization’s boundaries.
    • Microsoft 365 Copilot complies with GDPREU Data Boundary, and other enterprise-grade compliance standards

The "Work" vs. "Web" toggle you mentioned is a UI feature available in Copilot Pro, but it does not affect the underlying data protection policies applied to your organizational account. As long as you're signed in with your company credentials, your data is handled according to Microsoft’s enterprise commitments.

Should you need any further assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

    Kind regards,

    Dear Guglielmo Biagini,

Thank you for reaching out with your concerns about data privacy in Copilot. We understand how important it is to ensure that your data remains protected while using our AI-powered tools.

    To clarify:

    • Copilot Pro offers additional features but does not change how Microsoft handles user data.
    • If you are using Copilot within the "Work" section with an eligible company account, your data benefits from Microsoft's enterprise-grade security and privacy protections.
    • Whether you have a Pro license or not, Microsoft does not use customer data from chats, conversations, or attachments to train AI models.
    • Your data is not sold to third parties.

For full details on how Microsoft handles user data, including AI-related privacy policies, we encourage you to review our official privacy statement: https://privacy.microsoft.com/en-us/privacystatement

We appreciate your trust in Microsoft Copilot and are happy to assist if you have further questions.

    Best regards,

Hi, thank you for your fast and clear reply.

I just want to stress out one last thing to be 100% sure.

In the second point of your answer you said "If you are using Copilot within the "Work" section with an eligible company account, your data benefits from Microsoft's enterprise-grade security and privacy protections."

My company offers eligible company accounts to work whithin the microsoft suite, but in Copilot you can choose between work and web (as in the picture) only if you have the PRO license.

So, my final question is: If I have an eligible company account, like ******@companyname.net, with a microsoft suite license does my data benefits from Microsoft's enterprise-grade security and privacy protections?

Sorry if I'm being over-precise but I'm interested to know every particular!
