Dear GiorgioVisentini,

Thank you very much for your reply! You have indeed found the cause of this problem! You are a great person!

I downloaded the Italian language pack and tested it, and I found that: when using the Italian language, the date shortcut keys we mentioned do not apply. This is different from the English version.

I visited the Italian language community and searched for relevant information. Later, in my actual test, I found the applicable date shortcut keys for Italian Excel (Microsoft 365 version):

Ctrl + J can be used to enter the current system time.

Ctrl + Alt + A can be used to enter the current system year, month, and day.

This is also a shortcut you can try. In addition, I think this problem may also be related to the layout of the keyboard. For example, the "ALTGR" mentioned in the article may be a key on the Italian layout keyboard?

Thank you for providing me with ideas to solve the problem. It also helps me master more skills. If my reply inspires you, you can mark it as "yes", which is very important for our customer evaluation. Thank you for your understanding and support.

    Dear GiorgioVisentini,

Thanks for your quick reply and correction. In my case, "Ctrl + ;" types the current year, month, and day, while "Ctrl + SHIFT + ;" types the current time.

Thank you for taking the time to try the steps above. Do you mean the same problem exists in safe mode, after resetting Excel, and in a new blank document?

In addition, please tell me the specific version of Excel you are using, which you can see in "File", "Account", "About", and you can also share its screenshot. For example, my version is Microsoft 365MSO (2506, 16.0.18925.20076).

You can also try a clean boot, which can rule out interference from third-party applications and services. Check if the problem is caused by other programs:

-Clean startup, try to use clean startup, and check whether the problem still appears after eliminating the influence of third-party soft armor and services. If the problem is solved, you can follow the steps of clean startup to find the problematic software.

Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem.

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step so that it will help you get you back on track.

If you make any progress, please let me know. I'm always here.

    Microsoft 365

Before, on my question, I said I typed "Cntrl+SHIFT+;", but I was wrong, I used to type just "Ctrl+;" without SHIFT and it will copy the previous cell.

Trying to resolve my problem, I read the Guide and the Guide says "Ctrl+SHIFT+;"

    Sorry for any inconvenience.

    Dear GiorgioVisentini,

Good day! Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

I understand that when you use the date shortcut key, it will copy the previous cell. I understand the inconvenience this issue has caused you, and I’ll do my best to assist you!

Here are some steps you can try to see if that fixes your problem:

    1. Disable add-ins:

Go to "File", "Options", "Add-ins", "Select COM add-ins below" and hit GO. Disable all COM add-ins, reboot and see if the problem is alleviated.

    2. Try Safe Boot:

While holding down Ctrl, double-click to open the Excel program or file.

    3. Reset Excel to a cleaner factory state:

    =========================

    1. Exit all Office programs.
    2. Make sure the following folders are missing files:
    1. Go to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART and press Enter to see if the file exists, delete it if it exists, and close it if it does not.
    2. Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Root\Office16\XLSTART or C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Root\Office16\XLSTART to see if the file exists, and if it does, delete it. If there is a file, delete it again, and if not, close it;
    1. Press Windows key + R at the same time, type regedit, and press Enter.
    2. Find the following keys and rename the excel folders (right-click and select Rename (e.g. rename Excel to Excelold); HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Excel HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel
    3. After completing the above steps, check the problem.

Also, if you create a new blank document, does this problem still occur in the new document?

What version of Office are you using?

I hope this information helps. If you have any updates, feel free to let me know—I’ll be here to help.

    Best regards,
