Using a Stand Alone Version Of Microsoft Publisher alongside Microsoft 365 Family

Good afternoon,

I have received an email today to say that from 1st October 2026 you will be removing MS Publisher from Microsoft 365. I have used Publisher for many years and have many hundreds of Publisher documents. At the present time this is using the software through the Microsoft 365 Family app.

I would like to continue to use this programme and wondered if I was to purchase a copy of Publisher 2019 or 2021 whether I can install this as a standalone programme to use instead of the version within 365 now?

Will it work alongside 365 and continue to work after the 2026 cut off? Or do I purchase the standalone programme now and wait to install it after the 2026 cut off?

I understand that will no longer be support for the programme after the cut off date.

I look forward to your early response

I got my stand-alone MS Publisher from NX-SOFTWARE [SYDNEY] : **** https://nxsoftware.com.au**** ******@nxsoftware.com.au here in Australia. Delivery for me was a download ISO file with a License Key. I have downloaded it but have not installed as yet for the Installation steps advise to uninstall any previous versions of MS Office before installing the stand-alone version. As I use other elements of MS Office 365 I am unsure what to do next.

Thank you, that is helpful. I will investigate further but initial search suggest it is a bit hit and miss and not fully compatible.

And of course, I really want to know if my original question of installing a standalone version Publisher will work

    Kind regards

    Linda

In doing a search for a compatible software that works with MS Publisher pub files, LibreOffice does not support that type. However Scribus does. I am not familiar with it but their website does say it supports pub files.

Do you know how to get a perpetual copy of Publisher? Do you know a way to contact Microsoft to ask them to reconsider dropping their support for Publisher in 2026?

    Thank you
