Can I use an email created with Microsoft 365 personal if I purchase the Business Microsoft 365

I currently have an email that I created with Microsoft 365 personal in Outlook premium with a domain name I purchased. I want to now create a new email address for another domain name I have purchased as we are changing our trading name. I need to keep the old email running for a while and want to start a new one also. How can I do this without keeping Microsoft 365 Personal and buying Microsoft 364 Business?

    Dear Customer,

Thank you for your message. I just want to make sure I fully understand your current setup and what you're aiming to do, so I can provide the most accurate guidance.

From what you've described, it sounds like:

    • You're currently using Microsoft 365 Personal with:
      • Outlook Premium
      • custom email address using a domain name you purchased
    • You’ve now purchased a new domain name due to a change in your trading name
    • You’d like to:
      • Create a new email address using the new domain
      • Keep the old email address active for a while during the transition
    • You’re considering switching to Microsoft 365 Business, but ideally, you’d like to avoid maintaining both the Personal and Business subscriptions at the same time
    • You want to ensure that both email addresses can function without conflict during this period

Could you please confirm if I’ve understood your situation correctly? Once I have your confirmation, I’ll be happy to walk you through the best way to set this up smoothly.

I truly hope you understand that the initial steps I suggested may not have completely resolved the issue, as there might still be underlying causes, we haven't uncovered yet. Please know that I’m here with you every step of the way, ready to work together and do everything I can to help troubleshoot and find the best solution.

Please feel free to let me know how it goes or if you need any further assistance. If the solution I suggested doesn't work on your machine, just let me know. I’ll be here to check and provide more options.

    Best regards,

Hi Ben, you cannot use a Personal Microsoft Account (email address) with a Work or School Account (email address), that is a Business Account. So, I can create a Work, School, Business Account with a Work, School, Business, email address. See: What's the difference between a Microsoft account and a work or school account? - Microsoft Support

You could create a second Windows User Account to prevent any conflict. Manage User Accounts in Windows - Microsoft Support
