I am unable to open Microsoft files stored in my OneDrive personal vault. This is despite my OneDrive being in sync and Office 365 being updated—other files (e.g. PDFs) open fine.

I use a Mac, and updating to the latest IOS did not work. I have also tried the standard suggestions below:

  1. Unlocking and Syncing:
  • Unlock the Vault: If your Personal Vault is locked, you'll need to unlock it by verifying your identity (PIN, password, fingerprint, etc.).
  • Resume Syncing: After unlocking, ensure OneDrive is actively syncing. Check the OneDrive icon in the system tray (right side of the taskbar) and select "Resume syncing" if it's paused.
  • Check for Errors:

A red "x" on the OneDrive icon may indicate syncing problems. If it persists, consider repairing or reinstalling OneDrive. 2. File and Folder Issues:

  • Illegal Characters:

Check for illegal characters (e.g., ?, *, , /, :, <, >, |, ") in file or folder names within your Personal Vault, as these can cause syncing problems.

  • File Permissions:

Ensure you have the necessary permissions to access the files. Sometimes, switching to a different account (like a local administrator account) can help isolate permission issues.

  • File Corruption:

If you suspect a corrupted file, try opening it in a web browser or downloading it to your computer and opening it with the relevant application. 3. OneDrive Account and Settings:

  • Unlink and Relink:

Unlinking and relinking your OneDrive account can resolve configuration issues.

  • Reset OneDrive:

Resetting OneDrive can also help fix sync or access problems.

  • Check OneDrive Version:

Ensure your OneDrive app is up to date, as outdated versions may have bugs.

  • Multiple Accounts:

If you have multiple Microsoft accounts, ensure you're logged into the correct one associated with your Personal Vault. 4. Browser Issues:

  • Clear Browser Cache:

If you're accessing Personal Vault through a web browser, clearing the browser's cache and cookies may resolve the issue.

  • Try a Different Browser:

Test accessing the vault with a different browser to rule out browser-specific problems. 5. Other Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches.
  • Reinstall OneDrive: If other solutions fail, try uninstalling and reinstalling the OneDrive app.
  • Check for Updates: Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date, as updates can include fixes for OneDrive.
