I cannot create new email using the domain I set up on GoDaddy because that domain has been used to set up a Microsoft 365 account and I don't know anything about that account

I recently bought a domain and with it an Office 365 email subscription from Godaddy. Whenever I try to add my email there, I receive the following message:

This seat's taken

Whoops! mydomain.com has already been used to set up a Microsoft 365 account at Microsoft®.

Before you can create any new users here, you must remove mydomain.com and any associated accounts from your previous Microsoft 365 account.

Sign in to your Microsoft 365 account on the Microsoft site.

Go to your Admin section.

Find the Users section, and edit or delete any users associated with mydomain.com.

Find the Domains section, and select mydomain.com to remove.

Come back here, and create your new Microsoft 365 accounts!

It might take some time after removing the domain before it's available here. Give it a few minutes before trying to create an account. Learn more

I honestly don't remember where that domain was setup before.

I contacted GoDaddy's support and their answer was that I should contact Microsoft

I can verify the current ownership of the domain. However, since it's new, I didn't create anything within Microsoft 365. It's possible this tenant is setup by someone else. Can someone help me remove the tenant so I can continue with the setup.

Yes, please. This was not answered and I paid for a domain that I can't launch as I don't have access to the email that I never set up. The tenant needs to be removed from the Microsoft side. That's I was told by GoDaddy. The domain is Just-Find.co.uk

    Dear G Cabrera,

Good day to you! Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community. Sorry for any inconvenience you are facing, in order to remove your domain from a tenant that you don't know about, I recommend you to do the following:

    1. Create a New Microsoft 365 Tenant (if you haven't already):
      • Go to Microsoft 365 Trial Signup and create a new tenant using a temporary domain (not your custom domain).
      • This gives you access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
    2. Verify Domain Ownership:
      • In your new tenant, go to Admin Center > Settings > Domains.
      • Try to add your domain. Microsoft will ask you to verify ownership by adding a TXT record to your domain's DNS settings (you can do this via GoDaddy).
      • This step proves you own the domain, even if it's still linked to another tenant.
    3. Contact Microsoft Support via Admin Center:
      • Once your domain is verified, go to Admin Center > Help & Support.
      • Search for “domain associated with another tenant” and choose the option to contact support.
      • Request escalation to the Data Protection Team. They are the only team that can forcibly remove the domain from the old tenant after verifying your ownership.

    Important Notes:

    • You cannot remove the domain yourself unless you have access to the original tenant.
    • Microsoft will not disclose tenant details due to privacy policies, but they will help you reclaim the domain if you prove ownership.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.Best regards, Hoang-D - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
