OneNote says I don’t have enough storage space to sync my notes, even though I have more free space.

I've tried to sync my notes in the OneNote desktop app (the version included with a Microsoft 365 subscription) and the web version.

In the web version of OneNote, I’m seeing error 0xE0000796.

I used to share many of my notebooks via links, but I’ve deleted all of them, and the problem still persists.

Switching to english for screenshots is not necessary, Google image search translates them if I can't read the language.

On the space issue: is your hard drive full? Although that should not affect creating files online. They wouldn't be able to sync down. I'll ask my support contacts if there is an issue with OneDrive.

I’ve checked them, and most of my notebooks exceed 2 GB. Maybe I’m misunderstanding things, and a single page can’t be larger than 2 GB?

A single notebook is limited to 2GB, not a single page. It appears most of your notebooks are at or near the max size. (The backups and cached notebooks are slightly larger that the online size.)

There are two different types of notebooks - ones stored only on the computer and only usable by OneNote on windows. These have .one or .onepkg extensions. These files van be stored in OneDrive but not opened by onenote.com. The ones in OneDrive that don't have an extension or have .URL extension can be opened in any OneNote app. As far as I know, only the OneNote notebooks stored online have the 2GB limit.

I’m sorry, but I don’t know how to check the size of my OneNote notebooks on OneDrive. I have local backup copies on my computer’s hard drive. I’ve checked them, and most of my notebooks exceed 2 GB. Maybe I’m misunderstanding things, and a single page can’t be larger than 2 GB?

I’ve also noticed that the issue isn’t limited to OneNote. I can’t create any new files in OneDrive, even through the website, which still shows that I have plenty of space available.

In the attached screenshot, I’m trying to restore a file from the recycle bin, but I can’t because of the “quota limit”. Sorry for the language in the image; I don’t know how to switch it to English.

Additionally, when I click the OneDrive icon on the taskbar, I get a message saying I’m low on cloud storage. However, when I open the settings, it shows I still have 850 GB available.

Hi, I'm Diane and I'm happy to help you today.

    Have you seen this article:

    https://support.microsoft.com/office/resolve-th...

Do you know how large your notebooks are? The limit for OneNote files is 2GB. If you deleted notebooks, you need to empty the Recycle bin in OneDrive.

Let me know how it goes, I'm here to help you further if needed.
