Since Microsoft publisher will stop support 10/2026, how do we convert all our .pub files to word file types (which type is best) without losing all of our graphics and folded bulletin support?

    Hi Alex,

The thing is that neither Adobe Acrobat nor Word have the layout tools available in Publisher.

    Greetings:

I would suggest converting your .pub files to PDF. Adobe PDF essentially snaps a pic of what it sees. I used this with my former newsletters which were composed in MS Word and contained artwork, text, tables, and endnotes and were emailed to subscribers as PDF files. I also has clients who ordered digitial image restorations which I would repair in Adobe Photoshop, then size and secure in MS Pub, then convert to PDF files before emailing the finished work to the client. The benefit is subscribers / clients can't edit a PDF with just the reader. I have converted all my .pub files to PDFs to preserve them.

If you need to edit a PDF, you need to upgrade from the free PDF reader to a subscription-based Adobe DC Pro which comes with a lot of editing tools.

    Hope that helps,

    A

That only converts text - not graphics, textboxes, or formatting. I just tried it with a newsletter I do for a club, and a lot of the text isn’t even on the correct page (info from the last page is in the middle of the first page.

Here is an excerpt from an email I received from Microsoft regarding my subscription:

Beginning October 01, 2026, Microsoft Publisher will no longer be supported as part of Microsoft 365. Many common Publisher scenarios are available in other Microsoft 365 apps, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Designer.

Action Recommended: Before October 01, 2026, convert your existing Publisher files to PDF or Word format. After this date, you will no longer be able to open or edit these files with Microsoft Publisher.

Make sure you're in the current desktop version of Publisher, then: File > Save As > Browse > in the pull-down menu, "Save as type" scroll to the format type you want to convert to. .docx is there. As are many other forms. I tested it.

    Hope that helps.
