Thanks for suggestion, but I'm still stuck:

While Changing te Setting (Advanced), I followed your step 1., Go to File > Options > Advanced, without problems.

But step 2 remains a mystery. I don't see an Editing options section. (I'm using the latest version of the Microsoft 365 subscription: does you advice possible apply to some other Excel version?

    Thanks for the fast response

I have MS365 and I checked for updates and I am current

I could not get those options to work. Under the advanced and editing options, there was no option of  "Use CTRL + Click to follow hyperlink" selection

To clarify, I am in Excel and what I am calling a hyperlink is: I enter the equal sign in a cell then go to another cell and click on it. This then fills the original cell with whatever is in the second cell

    Dear K D Johnsen,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your question with us. I understand how important it is to smoothly navigate between your data and external information using hyperlinks in Excel.

    • Default Behavior: By default, Excel is configured so that you must press Ctrl + Click on a hyperlinked cell to open the associated link. This prevents accidental clicks from navigating away when you’re trying to edit data.
    • Using the Context Menu: You can also right-click the cell containing the hyperlink and select "Open Hyperlink" from the context menu. This method will immediately take you to the linked destination.
    • Changing the Setting (Advanced): If you prefer to simply click the cell without holding the Ctrl key, you can change this behavior.
      1. Go to File > Options > Advanced.
      2. Under the Editing options section, uncheck the option "Use CTRL + Click to follow hyperlink". After doing this, a simple click on the hyperlinked cell should open the link directly.

I hope these steps help you access your hyperlinks more intuitively. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please don't hesitate to let me know.

    Warm regards,

    Scott_LA | Microsoft Community Support
