Upgraded my late 2013 MacBook Pro to the macos 11.7.1 (Big Sur). MS OFFICE 2008 APPS will not open.

I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro running MS Office 2008 (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

I just upgraded the computer to the latest available upgrade for the late 2013 MacBook Pro - (macOS 11.7.1 BIG SUR).

Now, none of the MS Office 2008 apps will work. They all have a white circle with a line through the circle and when I try to open the app, I get a message to upgrade to Office 365. If I purchase the upgrade:

  1. Do I need to attempt to uninstall MS Offcie 2008 before the installation of Office 365, or just proceed to install Office 365.
  2. After installing Office 365, will I be able to run MS Word, PP, and Excel without any issues?

Thank you for the quick response. On the computer, I have an existing office 2008 but none of apps (word, excel, and PPpont) work now that I upgraded to a big spur. I cannot access any of my work in MS Word now :(

I fuess I will have to try to upgrade the laptop Os to an unsupported version of Sequoia and purchase office 365 and hope that MS word will then open and I can get to my work? Also since the upgrade, the apple time capsule backups using time machine shows a backup but I cannot acess the data in time machine to confirmthat my MS Word work is backed up. This upgrade to big spur has been a nightmare and an absoluteabortion. Everything was working fine before the os upgrade.

    Good morning,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, I understand that you need assistance with your Office applications. I would like to let you know that if you are going to purchase Microsoft365 Personal/Family you need to have at least the 3 latest operating system for MAC (Sequoia, Sonoma, Ventura) to run the Office 365. Big Sur is already an outdated operating system for Mac OS however you would still have an option to use a very old version of office applications and in which some features are not present.

If you have an existing version Office 2008 apps then what I would suggest is before uninstalling the current office application is to make sure you have a way to reinstall them.

    I hope this helps,

    Best regards

    JK
