I need to start numbering format in Word as 01, 02, 03 but when I edit the number format, it shows up as below:

I need from 10th onwards, it should still reflect double digits such as 10, 11, 12 and not 010, 011 and 012.

How can I fix that?

It would appear that you are adding the zero as text before the number in the "Enter formatting for number" box. Instead select the "01, 02, 03, ..." number style; it will do what you want. Note in the screen shot below that the entire number 01 is shaded as a field. If the zero is added as text, it will not be shaded.

    Dear Jenny Tan2 ,

    Thank you for reaching out.

If you would like your numbered list in Microsoft Word to display with a leading zero for numbers 0–9 (e.g., 00, 01, ..., 09) and then continue normally from 10 onward (without showing 010, 011, etc.), please follow the steps below:

Steps to Create a Two-Digit Numbered List in Word:

    1. Select the text where you want to apply the numbered list, or place your cursor at the starting point.
    2. Go to the Home tab > click the Numbering drop-down (small arrow next to the numbering icon).
    3. Select Define New Number Format….
    4. In the Number format field, enter:

    bash

    CopyEdit

    0#.

    This formatting pattern ensures:

    1. Numbers 01 through 09 will include a leading zero.
    2. Numbers 10 and above will display as normal (not as 010, 011, etc.).
    3. Click OK to apply the formatting.

Kindly let us know if the issue persists after implementing the above guides so we can proceed to the next step. Please understand that our initial response may not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution. Thank you for your time and patience.
