After experiencing a crash while playing Valorant, my laptop is no longer detecting the Nvidia GPU in Device Manager or BIOS. Initially, the laptop became unresponsive, leading to a forced restart by holding the power button for 10 seconds. Post-restart, I noticed a significant drop in FPS during gameplay, and the dedicated GPU is missing from the Task Manager's performance list.

Several troubleshooting steps have been attempted, including:

Searching for hidden drivers in Device Manager
Scanning for hardware changes in Device Manager
Restarting the laptop
Performing a system restore to a previous checkpoint
Rebooting while keeping files
Checking BIOS settings for GPU options, which were not found

This issue is critical for completing ongoing tasks, and expert assistance has not provided a solution thus far. Any additional solutions or tricks beyond those already tried would be appreciated.

CPU: Intel i5 13th Gen
RAM: 16GB DDR5
Memory:
- SSD0: 512GB
  - SSD2: Samsung 990 Pro 1TB
  - GPU (expected): Nvidia GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop Edition

Hello. Try these two options to verify if the computer detects the GPU at all, but at this point with what you have tried, I wouldn't rule out a hardware issue.

Press Windows + R to open Run.
Type msinfo32 and press Enter.
On the left panel, expand: Components ⇢ Display.
Look at the right panel for any entry showing:
- Name: something like NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050
- Status: “OK” or an error message

The above was a direct check via msinfo32, now via dxdiag:

Press Windows + R, type dxdiag, and press Enter.
Let it load completely.
Go to the Display tab.
Check:
- Device Name (should show NVIDIA GPU)
- Manufacturer
- Display Memory

Let me know if you can see it through any of these options.

Hello, I have tried these 2 methods now, But it shows the integrated graphics only i.e., Intel ones. I did not find anything related to Nvidia

Is this an HP Laptop? Try doing this:

Power off the laptop completely.

Unplug the charger.

Hold the power button for 60 seconds.

Wait another 30 seconds.

Plug in the charger.

After this, turn it on as you would normally do and check again on Device Manager.

That's an EC reset, it's very unlikely, but in some cases it can help.

At this point, you've tried this:

Searched for hidden devices in Device Manager

Scanned for hardware changes

Restarted multiple times

Performed a system restore

Used "Reset this PC" while keeping files

Checked BIOS for any GPU settings (none found)

Ran msinfo32 and dxdiagonly Intel GPU shows up

Confirmed Nvidia GPU not listed anywhere in Windows tools

If you think about it, this points to a hardware issue on your computer. The last two things I can think of that could cause it after a hard crash like your case, is to try this:

Go to: Windows Security ⇢ Device Security ⇢ Core Isolation

If “Memory Integrity” is on, try turning it off, reboot, check Device Manager

Like I mentioned earlier, I’m guessing your computer is an HP, even if it's not your model does have iGPU, there's a chance it might be stuck in that mode. Take a look in the Registry for:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\

Before making any changes, I recommend backing up your Registry first. Then, check for keys like HwSchMode, DxgKrnl, or anything mentioning Hybrid or dGPU override. If you find them, you can either export them to keep a backup or delete them carefully.

If it’s still not showing up, you might want to take it to a technician for a checkup, or if it’s still under warranty, getting it repaired that way works great too.

Hi, My apologies i forgot to mention the laptop model, My laptop is Acer Nitro V-15 rtx 4050 edition.
Also, I have tried the EC reset previously, It did not work. I turned off Memory Integrity to off now. it still did not show GPU in device manager after restart.

In registry i have found some things. I'll share the screenshot. I am unsure what to edit and am not very confident doing that. Can you please help me out with that.

Thanks for the update and no worries, my bad for not asking earlier about the model of your computer. So, from what you shared, the registry confirms there’s nothing blocking GPU enumeration at the GraphicsDrivers level.

What you posted contains:

DxgKrnlVersion

MinDxgKrnlVersion

PlatformSupportMiracast

None of these will suppress or block discrete GPU detection. There’s no override key like EnableHybridMode, GpuPreferPowerSaving, TdrLevel, or HwSchMode that would matter here, so no changes needed in registry.

At this point, I’d recommend reaching out to Acer support, this it's likely a board-level failure or the GPU got locked out by the firmware due to a fault.

Of course, happy to assist. If you receive any updates from Acer, please share them, this information could be valuable for others experiencing similar issues.

I didn’t suggest a clean Windows reinstall because it’s unlikely to resolve the problem given that the GPU isn’t detected even in the BIOS. However, you can try that as well. Using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) is another option, but if the hardware itself isn’t detected, this tool likely won’t be effective.
