A Microsoft file hosting and synchronization service.
Hi Harkishan,
Thank you for your response.
Are you using the OneDrive "Restore your OneDrive" feature from the web interface? This restores your entire OneDrive to a previous point in time (e.g., due to ransomware or mass deletion). If so:
- Go to OneDrive online
- Click the gear icon > Options > Restore your OneDrive
- Choose the date and confirm the restore
If the restore date shown afterward is incorrect, it may indicate the restore didn’t fully complete or was overridden by a more recent action.
Check Recycle Bin and Restore History
- In OneDrive online, check the Recycle Bin — sometimes files are moved there instead of being restored. Also check the Second stage Recycle Bin (click “Recycle Bin” > scroll down > “Second stage recycle bin”). Look for any restore logs or activity history in OneDrive to confirm what was restored and when.
Check File Paths-
Sometimes restored files are placed in unexpected locations or renamed. Try searching for the filenames or checking:
- Recently modified files
- Folders with similar names
- Shared folders or synced folders
Version History Limitations
If you tried restoring previous versions of files or folders:
- This only works if the file still exists — it won’t recover deleted files.
- If the file was deleted and not in the Recycle Bin, version history won’t help.
If none of the above works:
- Try contacting Microsoft Support via OneDrive Help & Learning here: Contact - Microsoft Support
Provide them with:
- The date you attempted to restore
- The names or types of missing files
- Screenshots of the restore summary or activity log (if available)
If you need help with any of these steps or, feel free to reply to this post. We're happy to assist further.
Warm regards,
Edward Schlobohm
