My Msword file is being saved with notepad icon instead of word icon. I went through almost all suggestions, tried them but with no improvement. I am not alone here and feel sorry to see many with this problem. I opened " blank word document". Under File menu., File- more- options. In options,under " save " , you can select the format of file to save. I selected " word97-2003 Document(*.doc). Now my word icon is visible . Yes, the new file is saved as *.doc . I feel that this does not cause any noticeable difference.
