I had an in depth session with a microsoft representative involving a complete re-install. This left a 30.8GB Windows.old folder. Is it safe to delete it?

Yep, it is safe to delete the Windows.old folder, assuming you no longer need to revert to the previous version of Windows. The Windows.old folder contains your previous Windows installation. It's automatically created during a major update or reinstallation. It allows you to roll back to the earlier version within 10 days (by default in Windows 10/11).

Use Disk Cleanup (or Storage Sense) to delete it properly:

  1. Press Windows + S, search for Disk Cleanup, and run it as Administrator.
  2. Select your system drive (usually C:).
  3. Click "Clean up system files".
  4. After it scans again, check the box for "Previous Windows installation(s)".
  5. Click OK to delete.
