Change date range in an Excel chart's axis

I created a chart and have a date axis that displays first and last dates that are far from the actual data in the worksheet.

For example, the last actual date in the worksheet is 8/1/25 but the chart shows 9/4/28.

I’ve made many charts before and I’ve never seen this behavior. I want the first date on the chart to be the first date in the worksheet. Ditto last date.

I don’t know if this is relevant but on the Format Axis screen, the Axis Type section (three options) is missing. I see that section in files that show the charts the way I like it. Instead that window starts with Bounds, but the bounds are 41000 and 47000 instead of dates. So even if the solution involves these bounds, I don’t see how to change these numbers to dates.

Here's the chart:

Thom,

The behavior you describe is normal for a XY-Scatter chart. Try a Line chart instead.

Andreas.
