2025-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5063878) (26100.4946)

This update will not install. It downloads completely, installs, but then has an error.

Laptop details:

Windows 11 Home, version 10.0.26100 Build 26100, Dell Inspiron 3593, x64-based, System SKU 0979, Intel Core i7 processor, BIOS version 1.30.0, 3/7/24, SMBIOS version 3.1, embedded controller version 255.255, BIOS mode UEFI
I have downloaded, installed several times, restarted, rebooted
Windows Update trouble shooter could not fix it
I downloaded manually from MS update catalog website, but it still did not work.
I have run chkdsk, run system file checker sfc /scannow and rebooted, all to no avail.

I have seen many people with the same problem. Any solutions?

Hi, I also suffered with the same issue.

    • Note: I've spent about two weeks looking for an answer. Tried all methods to fix. Update troubleshooter was not working. The .net files would not install. Attempted dsim and sfc multiple times. Even tried windows installation media creation tool. Nothing worked at all. so I thought I'd post my solution.

    My fix..

    1. Downloaded the latest win11 iso. (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11)
    2. When saved to PC right click on downloaded iso and mount image
    3. Opened file explorer and located new drive with image. run setup (This method ask if you want to keep existing user data etc, select your prefered method). I didn't alter anything as i wanted to keep my data.
    4. In my experience, whilst install was running, the windows update checker got stuck at 46% (for a very a long time). I retried several times but the install kept on getting stuck at the same point. now my easy fix.
    5. Keep connected to the internet to start the install process. when asked to accept user license, before pressing next, I disconected from the internet, the process continued and did a clean install without loosing data.
    6. After PC re-started, checked windows update, several updates found and installed them. did this a few times and now PC is back fully updated. With no more issues

You may try so called repair install. Create Windows installation media as described at https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11 but do not boot from this media, run setup.exe file from running Windows instead. This will keep all your files, apps and settings.

Did you try to install update's off-line version? What was the result?

Please run Windows update troubleshooter and show the result.

    Try to install update's off-line version - http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB5063878

Run command prompt as administrator, run

    chkdsk C: /r /scan

    command and show the result.
