Universal Foldable Keyboard

Hello! I'm kindly asking You to shed some light on my issue. I found out recently that I cannot use f1-f12 keys on my Microsoft Foldable Keyboard (1695). I use the 'Windows' mode. If I try to hold the 'Fn' button and click on a number button it does nothing, as if I clicked on a number key only. Even the firmware I cannot install! It always says that keyboard is not connected. Otherwise, keyboard works perfectly fine.

I have licensed Windows 11 on my Lenovo Legion Go.

With best regards{1D0598ED-681F-4502-952C-1713E877EC28}

    Dear Roman,

Thanks for the clarification, your reply is worth for us to do further investigation.

There is one more workaround, that I think we could try.

If you cannot fix the Fn key, you can replace its functionality using software. This is the most practical solution to get the F1 - F12 keys back. You can use a different, unused key combination to trigger them using Microsoft PowerToys. This is an official Microsoft tool that is powerful and easy to use.

    1. Install Microsoft PowerToys from the Microsoft Store or from GitHub.
    2. Open PowerToys and go to the "Keyboard Manager" utility.
    3. Enable Keyboard Manager.
    4. Under "Remap a shortcut," click "+ Add shortcut remapping".
    5. In the new window:
      • Under "Shortcut:", click "Type" and press a combination you want to use, for example, Win + 1.
      • Under "Mapped to:", select F1 from the dropdown menu.
      • Click OK.
    6. Repeat this for Win + 2 -> F2, Win + 3 -> F3, and so on for all the keys you need.

Now, pressing the Windows key + a number will act as your F-keys.

I wish this could help. If you have any further questions, we are happy to assist.

    Dear Roman,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A.

Based on your description and the screenshot, the core problem seems to be a communication and driver issue.

Let's troubleshoot step-by-step, you can follow these steps below:

    1. Install Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse center:
      • Go to the official download page: Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse Center Download
      • Download and install the software. It should be compatible with Windows 11.
      • After installation, restart your Lenovo Legion Go.
      • Once rebooted, see if the F1-F12 keys start working. The software should automatically detect your keyboard and apply the correct driver.
      • Try running the Firmware Update tool again. It should now be able to see the device.
    2. Perform a full Bluetooth re-pairing:
      • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
      • Find your "Universal Foldable Keyboard" in the list.
      • Click the three dots (...) next to it and select Remove device. Confirm the removal.
      • Restart your computer. This is an important step to clear any cached driver states.
      • Turn your keyboard off and then on again to put it into pairing mode.
      • Go back to Settings > Bluetooth & devices, click Add device, and re-pair your keyboard.
      • Check if the F-keys now work.
    3. Check Bluetooth power management:
      • Press Windows + X, select Device Manager
      • Expand the Bluetooth section.
      • Right-click on your Bluetooth adapter (it might be named Intel, Realtek, etc.) and choose Properties.
      • Go to the Power Management tab.
      • Uncheck the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
      • Click OK and restart your device

I wish it could help. If you have any further issues, we are happy to assist.
