Hello. I have pretty much been going through this hell of an issue for almost a month now. I got a new build around a month ago. For the first 2-3 weeks, everything was working flawlessly; gaming at ultra settings, no stutter, no lag, and most importantly, no crashes. Just after that, one day, I got a BSOD about DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION around 5 minutes into a game. Fast forward to this day, I can't run any game stably for less than 10 minutes. The same thing applies when I try to export a video. In Event Viewer, I get errors about nvlddmkm, especially Event ID 0, 14 and 153, which I will go in more detail down.

The system specs are as listed below:

CPU: Intel Core i9-14900k
GPU: ZOTAC RTX 4090 AMP Extreme Airo
RAM: 32 GB DDR5-4800, Kingston KF552C40-32 + 32 GB DDR5-4800, Kingston KF552C40-32 (64 GB RAM in total)
SSD: CT2000P5PSSD8, 1863.02 GB
All-in-One Cooler for the CPU
PSU: bequiet! Pure Power 12M 1000W
Motherboard: MSI PRO B760M-P
OS: Windows 11, 24H2
Monitor: Dell S2419HGF, 1920x1080, 144Hz

I have noticed the same issue being reported many times, especially for RTX 4090. Here is what I have done so far:

  1. Enabled & Disabled XMP in BIOS (issue persists) ;
  2. Disabled & Enabled Hyperthreading, Turbo Settings regarding CPU (issue persists, no difference);
  3. Used DDU to uninstall the driver in safe boot mode and installed an older version [537.58]. (This did make games more stable but only a few, I tested some other games, and they would still crash with Event ID 0);
  4. Changed permissions for nvlddmkm.sys file to Full Control for Users (issue remains);
  5. Turned on Debug Mode in Nvidia Control Panel;
  6. Switched to "Prefer Maximum Performance" in Nvidia Control Panel (no difference);
  7. Disabled Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling in Windows settings (This caused no BSODs but the crashes remain);
  8. Used MSI Afterburner to undervolt the GPU core & memory clocks for around -52 MHz (no difference);
  9. Changed PCIe Gen Mode in BIOS to both 4.0 and 3.0 (no difference);
  10. Uninstalled programs like G-Hub and Wallpaper Engine, switched HAGS off for the other programs that supported it (no difference);
  11. Disabled Integrated GPU in Device Manager (issue still persists);
  12. Uninstalled NVIDIA HD Audio in Device Manager (yet again, no difference);
  13. Disabled High Precision Event Timer (others said it was the only workaround for it, no difference whatsoever);

I tried using DDU to update the latest drivers; however, it did not make any changes. I've also seen reports of 566.36 being the most stable driver for 4090, but that did also not change anything. As for the errors in Event Viewer, I get these 3-4 specific errors from source nvlddmkm:

The description for Event ID 153 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

\Device\Video3
Error occurred on GPUID: 100

The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table.

The description for Event ID 14 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

\Device\Video3
badfbadf(badfbadf) 00000000 00000000

The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table

The description for Event ID 0 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

\Device\Video3
Error occurred on GPUID: 100

Something to notice is that I would get Event ID 153 error on the latest drivers only, but either way, I have been pulling my hair out trying to find any solution available. My last hopes to see if this issue is software-based is to actually format Windows 11 23H2 instead of 24H2 that came installed & updating the VBIOS for my GPU however I'm not so sure how that would fix this.

Anyways! If anyone has been going through this issue and has any idea about a fix, any help would be really appreciated! Thank you for your time!

    For my case scenario, the GPU was faulty. RMA was the solution. Hope this post helps someone with the same issues :)

    Hi ,

    Yes, in this case it would be with the latest driver.

    Thanks

    Hi ,

    Well, it's a good idea to test build 23h2 to see if the problem occurs.

    If it gives a BSOD, unfortunately, that only confirms a hardware failure. I don't believe that.

    Give feedback if the information was useful or not.

    Thanks

    Hi ,

    This could be hardware. Before accessing the BIOS, check which version you have and, if possible, upload the BSOD minidumps.

    It could be a problem with the processor line. The 14th generation Intel flaws caused BSODs with Nvidia GPUs. Since you bought the PC within a month, I don't believe it's the same batch with the 13th and 14th generation Intel flaws.

    We'll use DDU to remove all Nvidia and Intel drivers and perform a BIOS update along with the new chipset and video drivers.

    In this case, you need to suspend BitLocker to update the BIOS. Here's how to suspend BitLocker protection:

    Open the Control Panel.

    Select System and Security > BitLocker Drive Encryption > Suspend Protection.

    Select Yes.

    Be careful when updating the BIOS; you can't interrupt the process under any circumstances.

    Access the bios, see which version you are using and update to the latest one.

    DDU: https://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/games/PC/guru3d/ddu/[Guru3D.com]-DDU.zip

    Note: DDU is a third-party application to completely delete and reinstall the GPU driver. 1. After downloading, extract ddu to a folder.

    1. Run the driver screen uninstaller.exe application, select Model tab, put GPU.

    After uninstalling the GPU Driver, uninstall it for Intel and Nvidia.

    1. Click on the First option clean and reboot and wait for the process to finish.
    2. After running DDU and install driver :

    Open the command prompt (admin) and run the commands: sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, wait for the process to finish and restart the computer.

    Then perform a clean boot and if you want to uninstall applications that you do not use.

    Have you modified winupdate setting to "Get latest updates"?

    Win11 by default only installs critical security updates, unless you made the mistake of selecting “Get latest updates” which includes drivers.

    See your laptop/PC makers support to update both bios and makers drivers.

    There should be a shortcut to that makers update utility on your system.

    Then set Bios to defaults & Pwr to balanced. At the end of the day shutdown, do not leave in sleep.

    Do NOT update from any other source inc Device Manager

    You only need to set the Advanced options for notify & Time, then leave win update to do its own thing.

    If a self-build drivers/bios update via the mobo makers support site + any vid card site
