OneNote Stuck in Selection Mode

Hello I am having the issue described in the thread below, which is locked but actually provides no solution. When I click and hold with my left button on my laptop it becomes stuck in selection mode. After I release the left button, as I move the cursor, the selection still changes. Clicking the left button does not toggle me out of selection mode, nor does using escape. This only happens inside OneNote. Oddly, using the tap on the track pad itself will bring it back to normal function. I can use select normally with only the trackpad, but not the buttons which I prefer. Similar to the post below, I have tried restarting the OneNote, laptop, closing out of the Notebook specifically and then restarting OneNote, all to no effect. Thank you!

    Hi. I have exactly the same issue.

    I'm using OneNote for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2507 Build 16.0.19029.20208) 64-bit on a Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 (Qualcomm Snapdragon X), but also OneNote for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2507 Build 16.0.19029.20136) 64-bit on an ASUS ZenBook (Intel i7). The issue is present on both.

    Previously I was using OneNote on a Microsoft Surface 8 (Intel i7), with the same issue.

    To provide more details:

    • this issue has been happening for quite a while
    • it happens ALL the time
    • it happens on both my laptops (as specified above), but it used to happen on my previous one as well
    • it happens regardless of me using the mouse or the trackpad

    Because of this, I have used OneNote for Windows 10, which never had the same issue (and for me has also a better UI), but now I understand that the app is going to be fully discontinued starting October 14th.

    This is not good news, as unfortunately, the main Office365 version of OneNote is currently unusable due to this issue.

    To help better understand your problem I need to ask a few questions first.

    When you said left button, do you mean your mouse button?

    If this problem only happens when you use your mouse? Can you change to a different mouse and test see the problem still happen.

    How often does this issue occur? Does it happen every time you use OneNote or only happen from time to time?

    What is your OneNote license information and version number?
