How do I stop Windows 11 "File Explorer Extract All... option" from giving a Catastrophic Error Msg?

Hi

Since the latest WIndows 11 Pro 24H2 Update in Aug (KB5063878), I get an Error 0x8000FFFF: Catastrophic Failure error when using Extract All... option in File Explorer.

I am trying to extract 7zip & Zip files. Files with sizes up to 1.5GB are fine, but somewhere beyond that size the error msg appears.

Everything works fine if I restore my O/S drive to prior to the Windows Update, so I know that is the cause of the problem.

Problem occurs on both my NAS HDD array & my PC SSD NVme m.2 drive.

Has anyone else experienced this?

    Hi, good day!

Here's an older thread having issue after installing the recent KB5063878 update causing hard drives to fail after large file operations.

I recommend reporting the issue via Feedback Hub app to notify Microsoft.

Please try to temporarily pause updates for 1-2 weeks until Microsoft releases a patch fix.
