I can’t connect our wd my cloud home to my new computer on the network

I recently bought a new laptop. All is well except I cannot connect to my invaluable wd my cloud home device. I have an older all in one pc that connects perfectly fine. My new device is asking for a password from credential manager (enter your network credentials). It’s there in the system but I can’t read it. It is also on my other machine but I can’t see it! User name there but no password viewable. Its very frustrating! I’ve gone through quite a few steps from online sources but to no avail. I’m really hoping that somebody will be able to connect me. I’m not computer illiterate but on the other hand I haven’t got any advanced skills.

Many thanks for your help.

    Dear Teresa Bradley,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A.

It's very frustrating when a brand-new device can't connect to something as essential as your personal cloud storage, especially when your older computer sees it just fine.

The "Enter your network credentials" prompt is the key to solving this. The password it's asking for isn't your Windows password or your Wi-Fi password; it's a specific credential for the WD My Cloud Home itself, which is linked to your MyCloud.com account. You are correct that Windows saves this in Credential Manager but hides the password for security.

You could try following these steps below to solve this issue:

    1. Reset your WD My Cloud Account Password:
      • On your new laptop, open a web browser and go to the official My Cloud password reset page
      • Enter the email address you used when you first set up the My Cloud Home device.
      • Follow the instructions in the email you receive to create a new password. Make a note of this new password.
    2. Install the WD Discovery Software on your new laptop:
      • Download the WD Discovery software from the official Western Digital support site here: WD Discovery Software Download
      • Run the installer and complete the installation process on your new laptop.
      • Once installed, open the WD Discovery application. It should automatically scan your network and find your My Cloud Home.
      • It will prompt you to Sign In. Use your My Cloud email address and the new password you just created in Step 1.

Watch out for ads on the site that may advertise products frequently classified as PUP (Potential Unwanted Products). Thoroughly research any product advertised on the site before your device to download and install it.

After you sign in, the software should handle everything else. It will automatically connect ("map") the drive to your new laptop, and you should see it appear in File Explorer without being asked for a password again.

Final check: Ensure your network is set to "Private"

    • Go to Settings > Network & internet.
    • Click on your active connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
    • Click on the Properties for that network.
    • Under "Network profile type," make sure Private is selected. If it's on Public, change it.

I wish this could help. If you have any further issues, we are happy to assist.
