Latitude 7410 wouldn't load suddenly and reset and recovery does not work suggestions?

A few days ago, my latitude 7410 suddenly wouldn't boot -- I am guessing it is related to an automatic windows update. I have been unable to reset or recover it. Bitlocker is [or is supposed to be] turned off but I have been asked for the Bitlocker code, which I do not have. I tried using a flash drive with repair but my laptop didn't recognize it, or at least it didn't work. Recovery doesn't work either.

I just read that MS issued a fix to resolve a known issue breaking reset and recovery operations after installing the August 2025 Windows security updates. I suspect the initial update is what caused my problem. But I can't use the fix because my laptop won't boot which was caused by an update. It's a vicious cycle. I have given up on recovering my files, but how do I boot my laptop so I can use it?

Also, how do I banish bitlocker permanently? This is the second time I have been locked out of a laptop because of bitlocker being turned on without my knowledge. I sign in locally and do not store a bitlocker password since it should be turned off.

If there is an initial blue screen requesting the BitLocker recovery key, and you don't have that, the only option i a clean install.

If you created a bootable flash drive using

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 then you need to boot from that. If not then you will need another windows PC to use the process. Create Windows 10 Installation media.

To boot a Dell from USB when you press the power on button then immediately continually tap the F12 key until you see the boot menu, select the USB flash drive.

Your Dell probably won't boot from the USB without you selecting the USB port to boot from. Once you have booted from USB select Language > Install now > Customised install.

At customised install select each partition on the internal boot disk and Delete until there is only Unallocated space.

With unallocated selected, select Next and follow the onscreen prompts.

If I am unable to boot my laptop, the windows update issued to repair the problem doesn't help me. I cannot be the only person with this problem. I have been trying for over a week to boot my laptop. This is ridiculous. Please help.

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

I understand you're having trouble booting Windows normally after the latest Windows updates. This has been a known issue where recovery options like Reset this PC or fixing problems using Windows updates do not work after the updates released on August 12. However, the problem has been identified, and Microsoft released emergency Windows OOB (out-of-band) updates to fix the issue on August 19.

Currently, it seems you're having trouble entering the BitLocker recovery key, and no keys are found in your Microsoft account.

If this is the situation, the only option here is to do a clean installation of Windows 11 using a Windows 11 USB Bootable Installation media drive.

    Windows 11 Clean Install -

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsinsider/cleaninstall

After a clean installation, you can permanently turn off BitLocker Encryption by going into the Control Panel > System and Security > BitLocker Encryption > Turn off BitLocker for your system drive.

If you're running Home edition, turn off Device encryption by going into Privacy and Security -> Device Encryption, toggle it off.

Let me know if you stll need more help.
