I want to take advantage of the Microsoft Extended Security Update option; I realize that I have to purchase the option because I do not have the free Update version on my laptop.

However, I have some Issues.

1.) When I checked my laptop to see what I have I noticed the following:

Edition Windows 10 Home

Version 2009

Installed on ‎11/‎2/‎2023

OS Build 19045.5854

2.) I do not have One Drive installed as my back up because I prefer Google Drive as my backup.

3.) I paused my updates because the latest update listed is to upgrade to Window 11, which I DO NOT WANT. I cannot delete the update unless I run it and if I do, I have to delete it and try to reinstall Windows 10.

What are my options?

Windows for home | Windows 10 | Extended Security Update (ESU)

Upon reviewing my update history, the latest verson of 22H2 was on July 31, 2025. However, on my laptop, it shows Version 2009 In. addition, the latest update to be installed is for Windows 11 version 23H2. I accidentally installed that version on December 3, 2024. I had to remove that version and reinstall Version 10. If I install the Windows 11 update, then my Windows 10 version disappears. I do no have One Druve because I Uninstalled it and it does not appear on my Start screen or in my apps. What's Plan B?

Hi, thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I’m happy to help.

The number one requirement for you to receive the ESU program is that you must have the latest Windows 10 22H2 update. Other prerequisites can be found in the link below (scroll down to the bottom).

    https://support.microsoft.com/windows/windows-10-consumer-extended-security-updates-esu-program-33e17de9-36b3-43bb-874d-6c53d2e4bf42

If your device meets all the requirements, it should become available within the coming days as part of the gradual rollout. I recommend applying all the latest Windows 10 updates, and it should automatically appear on the Windows Update page in Settings.

Which Windows 10 version are you currently using, and when did you last receive and install an update?
