Where did the "sideeye" go and why was it removed?

Hello,

I am reaching out because I have been thinking about the fact that "side-eye" emoji no longer exists. I am petitioning that it be readded as it perfectly encompasses a certain emotion that is otherwise impossible to express with other emojis.

And maybe you say, "Well the 'side-eye' emoji is inappropriate for business." And to that I retort, am I meant to only ever say serious business-related things over teams, no banter or goofing around allowed? We are all fundamentally people outside of these jobs and that means communication requires nuance, and with that nuance is sometimes a little bit of cheeky side-eye.

So please hear my concerns and return the "side-eye" emoji to its rightful place in my emoji library on teams.

Thank you and good night.

Your friend and "Teams"mate Hyo

P.S. I screenshotted it and have been pasting it into chats where I feel it important to express the side-eye sentiment.

    Hi @Hyo,

Thank you for posting your question on Microsoft Q&A Community. We're happy to help you with your concern.

Regarding to your question, I agree with you that emojis are more than just fun icons, they help us express nuance, tone, and personality in our digital conversations. The side-eye emoji, as you described, definitely had a unique role in conveying that cheeky, skeptical vibe.

While I can't speak to the exact reason it was removed, I completely agree that Teams should support a balance between professionalism and human expression. Banter and light-heartedness are part of what makes collaboration enjoyable and authentic.

In case you'd like to submit it directly as well, here’s how to do it:

    1/ Open Microsoft Teams.

2/ Click on the three dots icon (...) next to your profile picture in the top-right corner.

    3/ Select “Feedback”.

4/ Choose “Give a compliment” or "Suggest a feature"

5/ Write your message (you can paste what you already wrote) and Submit.

Hope my information helps. Thanks again for raising this with charm and clarity.

Please don't hesitate to reach out again if you need further assistance.
