Which program is recommended to color code files in Windows 11? Thanks in advance.

Hi Jill, thanks for your question. Windows 11 does not have a built-in feature to color code files or folders. What Microsoft supports is changing folder icons by right clicking the folder, selecting Properties, then Customize, and choosing a new icon.
This changes the look of the folder but does not allow direct color coding. At this time, there is no Microsoft program that adds file or folder color coding in Windows 11.

There used to be a feature built in to change the folder colors as I have a bunch of folders with different colors so it was at one point available with Microsoft. I used it heavily and just now realized that I couldn't change a folder color and my company DOES have One Drive and it's definitely not an option.
I can't believe that they took the option away with Windows 11. :(

Previously, only OneDrive for work or school provided the folder color option in Explorer, but that option is in all versions of OneDrive now. Here's a tutorial showing the feature:
