I have a family license with 3 users including myself. I purchased a new PC with Windows 11 and would like to install WORD, EXCEL, etc. on the PC. I go through the motions, download Microsoft 365, PC tells me that applications have been installed, but I cannot find them on my PC. Any suggestion?

Try searching for the specific applications, Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc., from the Windows Start menu. You should be able to start them from there, and you can pin shortcuts to the Start menu and/or the taskbar for easy access.

Correct. After installing Office apps, I did not see any Office icons in Start menu nor was I able to enter "WORD" in the Search Bar and bring up the installed App. When I entered "WORD" in the Search Bar, the cloud version of the App came up. One of my errors was searching for "WORD" using File Explorer starting from "C:/Program Files" folder. Oddly, "WINWORD.exe" did not come up or I didn't notice it. Now that I have entered the Office apps into the Start menu by finding them with a search for ".exe", the installed version of WORD comes up fine when I enter it in the Search Bar. So I am now good to go! (I wish Microsoft would make transitioning from Windows 10 to 11 as easy as transitioning to a new iPad!)

Thanks for the follow-up. To locate winword.exe in File Explorer, you may have to change the settings so that it shows hidden files and folders (unless you have already done so).

However, searching from the Start menu would usually work. The fact that it didn't may indicate that the Office install on your system is not complete. An Office repair may be required.

Thanks again for everyone's help. I was finally able to get apps installed. No icon was added to the Start menu and when I searched in C;/Program Files for "WORD", nothing came up. I should have searched for WINWORD. I then manually added each Office tool to the Start Menu.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Since you already have a Microsoft 365 Family subscription, you should definitely be able to install Office apps on your new Windows 11 PC.

Before installing, it’s a good idea to uninstall any existing versions of Office to avoid conflicts.

    Here’s how:

    • Open the Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
    • Look for any version of Microsoft Office or Office apps, right-click, then choose Uninstall.
    • Once that’s done, restart your computer just to be safe.

    Then, to reinstall Microsoft 365:

    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
    • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your subscription.
    • Find your Microsoft 365 subscription and click the "Install" button.
    • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" button still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!
