- Restart the Device
- Press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds.
- Wait a few seconds, then press the Power button again to turn it back on.
- Check for Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates and install everything available.
- Restart the device after updates are installed.
- Check Touchscreen Settings
- Press Windows + X, then select Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices.
- Look for HID-compliant touch screen.
- If it’s disabled, right-click and choose Enable.
- If it’s missing, go to Step 5.
- If it’s disabled, right-click and choose Enable.
- Run Surface Diagnostic Tool
- Download the official Surface Diagnostic Toolkit.
- Run the tool and follow the instructions to check for hardware or software issues.
- Reinstall Touchscreen Driver
- In Device Manager, right-click HID-compliant touch screen and select Uninstall device.
- Restart the Surface. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically.
- Perform a Two-Button Shutdown
- Press and hold Power button + Volume Up button together for 15 seconds.
- Release both buttons and wait 10 seconds.
- Press the Power button to turn it back on.
- Contact Microsoft Support
- If the touchscreen still doesn’t work, it may be a hardware issue.
- Since the device is new, reach out to Microsoft Support for warranty service or replacement.
