My Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 adapter has been non-functional since upgrading to Windows 11. On startup, the WiFi icon appears for a few minutes but then vanishes. The adapter also disappears from Device Manager unless I am very quick to check after logging in.
Troubleshooting Performed:
The adapter is listed in Hardware Properties as "Not operational" and "Disconnected."
System Info:
Adapter: Intel(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX200 160MHz
OS: Windows 11
What else can I try to resolve this intermittent detection issue?
Hello,
Most bluetooth or wifi issue can be resolved by doing a power reset.
To do so, turn off the computer, unplug the computer from the power cord, then hold down the power button for 30 seconds. Turn the computer back on to see if it works.

Thanks for your reply. It didn't work. A little more detail is that the wifi icon showed up briefly after turning on the PC if I followed the steps in the other post I mentioned, but it completely disappeared after rebooting a couple of times. See the attached screenshots you asked for.
Can you uninstall your Cisco Anyconnect software first (via Settings > Apps). And see if that brings back the wifi adapter in Device Manager.
After that, if it still doesn't work, install the driver from Dell: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=vrp3f&oscode=w2021&productcode=inspiron-15-5505-laptop

Resetting the power or uninstall cisco didn't help. I couldn't install any of the drivers with message "This installation is forbidden by system policy. Contact your system administrator". This is a personal PC. I tried "run as administrator" and a few other permission settings I found online. Please let me know if you have other suggestions I can try. Thanks again!
Are you admin user yourself?
Do you use a work or school account to sign into your computer? If you go to Settings > Accounts > Access Work or school, is there an org account listed?
What antivirus do you use?
Yes. I'm the admin user. I don't use a work/school account to sign into the computer. T here're not any work/school accounts listed on my computer. I did use remote desktop and vpn.
I use the default Windows Security only without any other antivirus software. Also, I tried right click on the network icon > "Diagnose network problem" which said "Wifi is turned off" > "Turn on Wifi". I then got "There was a problem and we couldn't complete this action".
Please type cmd in the search on the taskbar. Don't press enter key yet. Instead, choose "run as administrator" to launch Command Prompt.
Then run this command:
net user administrator /active:yes
Then restart, sign into the built in admin. leave password blank and press enter to log in.
Then see if you can run those driver installs.
I was able to login as built in admin as you suggested but the problem still persists
Ok, that means it is not a user level isse.
Can you log back into your old account. Then hold down Win+R keys, type in netplwiz and press enter to launch Registry Editor.
Then see if yuo have this path:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DeviceInstall\Restrictions\DenyDeviceIDs
If so, right click on DenyDeviceIDs and delete this folder.
Restart the computer and see if you can now install.
Did you mean type regedit in the Run window? I didn't find the path you mentioned:

Launch Command Prompt in Admin mode again and run the following commands, one at a time. Not all of them will go through completely or value can be found, and that's ok. Once finished, restart the computer again and see if it works.

Then restart, see if it works.
It still not allowing me to install the drivers. The wifi icon (with internet access) did show up longer (about 2 minutes) after rebooting. It seems something is blocking the wifi adapter....

hmm.. If there's any policy that restricts that, the commands you ran should clear them.
One more area to check -
Hold down Win+R keys, type in sysdm.cpl and press enter.
Go to the hardware tab. Click on Device Installation Settings. Is it set to Yes or No currently?
Do you use any third party apps like CCleaner, or something similar in the past?
Did you ever use an organization on this computer prior, such as org account on Microsoft 365 for example?
Yes. I do use Microsoft 365 through my work email.
Ok, if you go to Settings > Accounts > Access Work or School (briefcase icon, NOT envelope icon), do you see your work account? If so, disconnect it.
Restart the computer, then type gpedit in search to launch Group Policy Editor. Then go here:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Device Installation > Device Installation Restrictions
Is everything on the right "Not Configured"?
I have disconnected the work account and below is the config settings:
Ok, right click on each one, change all of them to Not Configured. Then restart the computer, and see if you can install the drivers.
The drivers still would not install after I changed the settings. Got a message "A driver cannot load on this device. A security setting is detecting this as a vulnerable driver and blocking it from loading. You need to adjust your settings to load this driver" when I tried to install the AMD chipset driver. Can I completely turn off the Windows Security?
Does it only happen to the chipset driver? What about the wifi driver? Does the wifi driver install?
No. The message for wifi driver is the same as earlier "This installation is forbidden by system policy. Contact your system administrator"
in Device Manager > view > show hidden devices, when that is selected, can you find the wifi adapter listed as hidden device (a light gray shade). If so, right click and uninstall it. Restart the computer. See if that improves.
It is listed as a hidden device, but it still showed after I uninstall it and restarted the computer. I checked the log file which says the exit code is error_install_platform_unsupported.
I previously installed the driver directly downloaded from Intel ( https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19351/intel-wireless-wi-fi-drivers-for-windows-10-and-windows-11.html), which didn't fix the problem, but I cannot completely uninstall it either. I cannot find it from installed apps in settings and running the installer again doesn't have uninstall option (repair only). I'm not if this is a reason.

The problem is that I didn't find a way to uninstall it. It's not in the installed app list and running the installer again doesn't have uninstall option. Uninstalling in device manager doesn't work. It comes back after rebooting.

Yes. It came back after rebooting the computer. Below is how I uninstall it:
Ok click on Device by driver. Then write down the name of the driver file, for example, it might look like oem30.inf (the number can look different for yours).
Next, Please type cmd in the search on the taskbar. Don't press enter key yet. Instead, choose "run as administrator" to launch Command Prompt.
Run this command:
pnputil /delete-driver oem30.inf /force /uninstall
replace 30 with the actual number.
Reboot the computer after that. See what happens.
The deletion failed:
I also found that the driver changed to the 2019 version after I uninstall and rebooted the computer. This no longer changes after uninstalling and rebooting the computer again.
Also, the device status says the hardware device is not connected. Is this possible since sometimes it works upon the starting up?
Do you have the downloaded driver in a flash drive?
Launch command prompt in admin mode again.
Run the following commands one at a time. Replace the D: with the actual letter for your USB drive letter.
pnputil /add-driver D:\*.inf
pnputil /scan-devices
It couldn't find the driver. This is because the driver is an exe file, right? Thanks
I still really want to try to uninstall it first by using the PnPutil tool.
Run this command first:
pnputil /enum-drivers
Then scroll through and see if you can find the wifi adapter. It is the Publsiher name I need, not the original name. The publisher name should start with letters oem.
Once you find it, run this command again.. replace 30 with its actual number.
pnputil /delete-driver oem30.inf /force /uninstall
enum_drivers.txt Look like no drivers were found. It seems that the only option is to use an usb adapter :( Really appreciate your help!
I suspect that you might have some corrupted registries. A clean install in the future, if you don't mind backing up data and reinstall apps, could address that.
