Following upgrade to ipados26, most of my 365 apps will open but are frozen. I have reinstalled excel and restarted the ipad. Still not working.

I’d also recommend keeping an eye on the App Store over the next few days, as updates for Excel and Word usually roll out quickly after major iOS changes.

I’ve done all the standard troubleshooting steps above, and it still doesn’t work.

Thank you for letting me know.

Since the apps were working fine before the iPadOS 26 update, it sounds like this might be a compatibility issue or a small glitch after the upgrade.

Let’s try a few things to see if we can get them running again:

    • Update the apps: Open the App Store, tap your profile icon at the top right, and check if updates are available for any Microsoft 365 apps. Install all available updates.
    • Force close and reopen: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen, close the frozen Office apps completely, then reopen them.
    • Restart the iPad again: A fresh restart after updating can often clear any leftover background processes.
    • Check available storage: Low storage can sometimes cause apps to freeze. You can check this under Settings > General > iPad Storage.

If the issue continues after these steps, it might be worth waiting for the next app update, as Microsoft usually releases quick patches for new iPadOS versions.

Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Could you let me know what error message you’re seeing when trying to install it?
    2. Also, can you confirm which Microsoft 365 subscription you have?

Some features and availability can depend on the subscription type.

    For example, qualifying plans include:

    • Microsoft 365 Family
    • Microsoft 365 Personal

    Non-qualifying plans include:

    • Microsoft 365 Basic
    • One-time purchase versions, such as Office Home & Student, Office Home & Business, or Office Professional.
