Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
Hi Suzanne,
This issue has affected others after updates, especially on systems running older versions of Windows or transitioning to newer builds. Microsoft is aware of similar cases, and tools like SaRA are designed to help in exactly these situations.
It’s very possible that a Windows system update caused a disruption in how Office apps are registered or displayed. This can happen due to:
Corrupted registry entries during the update
Incomplete installation paths that prevent apps from showing in Settings or Start
User profile conflicts where the apps are installed but not visible
Or even a hidden install location that Windows isn’t indexing properly
Here are some steps that have helped others in similar situations:
Search Manually
Use the taskbar search to look for Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
If they appear, right-click and pin them to Start or Taskbar.
Repair Office (if listed)
Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
If Office is listed, click it > Modify > choose Online Repair for a deeper fix.
Use Microsoft’s Recovery Tool
Download the Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA).
Choose Office > I have problems installing Office.
This tool can detect and fix hidden or broken installations.
Fully Uninstall and Reinstall
Use the SaRA tool to completely remove Office.
Restart your PC.
Reinstall Office from https://account.microsoft.com/services under your subscription.
Check for Hidden Install Paths
Navigate to:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16
If you see the apps there, you can manually create shortcuts.
Let me know how it goes, Happy to assist you in every way!
