Hi Patricia,
This message usually appears when your PC or the Microsoft Photos app doesn’t have the necessary permission to access your phone’s storage. It can happen for a few reasons:
Your phone might be locked when connected to the PC.
The USB connection mode might be set to charging only, instead of file transfer (MTP).
The Photos app or Phone Link might not have the right permissions.
Or, if you're using an Android device, the app permissions might be restricted.
Steps to allow Microsoft to access your photos:
On your phone (Android):
Connect your phone to your PC using a USB cable.
Unlock your phone.
When prompted, select “File Transfer” or “MTP” mode.
If no prompt appears, swipe down from the top of your screen, tap the USB notification, and choose File Transfer.
If you're using the Phone Link app:
Go to Settings > Apps > Phone Link > Permissions
Make sure Photos and media (or Files and media) is allowed
On your Windows PC:
Open the Photos app or Phone Link.
If prompted, allow access to your phone.
In the Photos app, click Import > From a connected device.
Follow the on-screen instructions to select and import your photos.
Try a different USB cable (some only support charging, not data transfer).
Restart both your phone and PC.
Make sure the Photos app is up to date via the Microsoft Store.
Check for Windows updates under Settings > Windows Update.
Let me know how it goes, Happy to help!
